What is a full time union?

Full-time union jobs are positions where employees work a standard full-time schedule, typically around 35-40 hours per week, and are represented by a labor union. These jobs provide employees with collective bargaining power to negotiate wages, benefits, and working conditions. Union membership often leads to better job security, workplace protections, and access to benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave. Full-time union jobs can be found in various industries, including manufacturing, education, healthcare, and public services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time union worker?

To thrive as a Full-Time Union Worker, you typically need strong technical or trade skills relevant to your industry, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to read and follow safety regulations. Familiarity with industry-specific machinery, safety protocols, and sometimes OSHA certifications or apprenticeship program completion are often required. Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability are essential soft skills for working effectively in a unionized environment. These abilities ensure safety, productivity, and the effective representation of workers' interests within a collaborative workplace.

What are some common challenges faced by employees in full time union positions, and how are they typically addressed?

Employees in full-time union positions often face challenges such as balancing union protocols with company policies, navigating collective bargaining agreements, and adapting to changes in work schedules based on seniority. Pacific NW Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, full-service financial institution with branches in Portland, Vancouver, and Hood River. Our mission is simple: be our members' financial partner for life. We give back through financial literacy programs and community education.

As a smaller credit union, we're able to personalize the member experience, and that's why many of our members have been with us for generations.

What We Offer

Competitive pay: $19 - $19.50 per hour, plus incentives for referring products and services

Generous benefits include:

  • 4 weeks of paid time off
  • Health coverage starting after 30 days
  • 401(k) with company match after 6 months
  • Paid life, long-term disability & AD&D insurance
  • Paid holidays and volunteer time
  • Employee loan discounts

Your Role

As a Teller, you'll be the face of the Credit Union, welcoming members, processing financial transactions, and assisting with everyday banking needs. You'll provide friendly, accurate service while identifying opportunities to educate members about products and services that support their financial goals.

This position is based at our Portland branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome members and process deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments, and other transactions
  • Provide accurate information about Credit Union products and services
  • Balance your cash drawer and transactions daily
  • Identify opportunities to refer or cross-sell products as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure accurate documentation

What We're Looking For

  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in banking, cash handling, retail, or customer service
  • Strong attention to detail with basic math and computer skills
  • Friendly, professional communication and a member-service mindset
  • Reliability, accuracy, and the ability to follow established procedures
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude

Are you friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented? Do you enjoy helping people and making a difference in your community? We'd love to hear from you.
