Shift: Shift 1

Shift Details: 7:00-15:30 Holidays: Rotating Weekends: as needed

Job Summary:

Serves as a department expert and is responsible for assuring standards are met for the sterilization processes, record keeping, and staff competencies on the assigned shift. Ensures that all appropriate regulatory and clinical standards of practice regarding the sterilization of equipment and supplies are adhered to by the staff on the shift being supervised. Assures staff follows established policies, procedures, and practices for the sterile processing department which includes decontamination, packaging, sterilization and return of reprocessed supplies and instruments to support quality patient care throughout CMH. Responsible for personnel management. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

A minimum of 2 years work experience in a hospital based Sterile Processing Department is required. Leadership experience in any healthcare work setting that involves instrument reprocessing or experience as a lead/charge tech, educator or trainer in a Sterile Processing Department is required.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

EDUCATION PREFERRED:

Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field or Central Service/Sterile Processing Tech internship/training is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Knowledge of Infection Control and JCAHO Standards knowledge of asepsis; surgical techniques, or instrumentation, and Sterile Processing patient care equipment. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with subordinates in providing effective leadership. May compile objective and measurable data and produce reports. Has specialized knowledge and technical expertise with sterilization and operating equipment. Competent computer skills.

LICENSURE REQUIRED:

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from the CBSPD is required within 18 months of employment.

LICENSURE PREFERRED:

Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) within 18 months of employment is preferred.
