MS Track & Field Head Coach
Position Overview:The Middle School Head Track & Field Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing a positive and competitive track and field program for student-athletes in grades 6 8. This position emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and character while creating a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment. The coach will work closely with the Athletic Director and school staff to support both athletic and academic success. This is a stipend position.
Job Description / Essential Duties
  • Plan, organize, and lead daily practices focused on skill development, conditioning, and event fundamentals
  • Develop and implement practice and meet schedules in coordination with the Athletic Director
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team events
  • Teach and model good sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and respect
  • Prepare athletes for track meets and oversee team participation at competitions
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and school administration
  • Ensure compliance with school, league, and district athletic policies
  • Maintain attendance records, equipment inventory, and team rosters
  • Promote a positive team culture that supports student growth, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport
  • Support student-athletes' academic and behavioral expectations.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Previous coaching experience preferred (track & field or related sport)
  • Experience working with middle school aged students strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of track & field events, rules, and basic training techniques
  • Ability to motivate, teach, and positively connect with young athletes
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Completion of required background checks and district coaching requirements
  • Commitment to student safety, inclusion, and character development

Working Conditions
  • Seasonal position with practices and meets held after school hours
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Moderate to high physical activity, including standing, walking, running, and lifting equipment
  • Evening and occasional weekend commitments for competitions
  • Direct supervision of students in an active athletic environment
