Full Time Student information

What is a full time student?

Full time students are individuals who are enrolled in an educational program, such as high school, college, or university, and are taking a minimum number of courses or credit hours as defined by their institution. Typically, this means enrolling in at least 12 credits per semester at the undergraduate level, though requirements may vary. Full time students often have access to certain benefits, such as eligibility for financial aid, student housing, and specific campus resources. Being a full time student usually means dedicating most of your time to classes, studying, and related academic activities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time student, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Student, strong time-management, study habits, and foundational academic skills are essential, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with digital learning platforms, research databases, and productivity software is often required. Self-motivation, adaptability, and effective communication help students engage with coursework and collaborate with peers and instructors. These skills are vital for academic success, personal development, and preparation for future professional opportunities.

What are some effective strategies for balancing coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments as a full time student?

Balancing academic responsibilities with extracurriculars and personal life is a common challenge for full-time students. Effective time management is key—using planners or digital calendars can help prioritize tasks and set realistic deadlines. Setting aside dedicated study blocks, communicating proactively with professors or group members, and being mindful of overcommitting to activities are also important. Many students find that regularly reviewing and adjusting their schedules helps maintain a healthy balance and reduces stress.

What is the difference between Full Time Student vs Part Time Student?

AspectFull Time StudentPart Time Student
Study HoursTypically 30+ hours per weekLess than 20 hours per week
WorkloadIntensive coursework, full course loadReduced coursework, flexible schedule
Schedule FlexibilityLess flexible, fixed class timesMore flexible, can work around other commitments
PurposeFocus on full academic progressBalance studies with work or other activities

Full Time Students dedicate most of their time to their studies, often taking a full course load, while Part Time Students study with a lighter schedule, allowing for work or other commitments. The choice depends on individual goals and circumstances.

What is the best job for a full-time student?

Part-time jobs such as retail, food service, tutoring, or administrative assistant roles are popular for full-time students because they offer flexible hours and can accommodate class schedules. Remote work opportunities and internships related to a student's field of study can also provide valuable experience while maintaining flexibility.

Launch Your Career with NMC Cat
At NMC Cat, we're not just helping students earn a degree. We're helping them build a lifelong career.
For more than 20 years, our Diesel Technician CO-OP Sponsorship Program has helped hundreds of students graduate with less debt, real-world experience, professional tools, and a full-time career waiting for them. If you're passionate about diesel technology and ready to work alongside some of the industry's best technicians, we'd love to invest in your future.
As Nebraska's Caterpillar dealer for more than 85 years, NMC Cat provides industry-leading equipment, technology, training, and career opportunities while maintaining a culture where employees are valued, supported, and developed.
If you have questions before applying, contact our Recruiting Team at recruiting@nmc-corp.com or 402-891-7555.
Sponsorship Information:

As an NMC Cat CO-OP Student, you'll gain much more than classroom experience.
Our sponsorship program includes:
  • Paid tuition for an approved Diesel Technology program
  • Books, required fees, and tools provided
  • Competitive hourly pay while working in our shops
  • Hands-on experience with Caterpillar equipment and technology
  • Mentorship from experienced technicians
  • Career opportunities with NMC Cat upon graduation

What You'll Do

  • Assist with inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs in both shop and field environments.
  • Learn Caterpillar systems, diagnostics, and industry-leading repair techniques.
  • Participate in technical training and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop safe work habits while following company policies and procedures.
  • Represent NMC Cat professionally at work, school, and within your community.
  • Build the skills and experience needed to become a successful Caterpillar Service Technician.

What We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you:
  • Have earned your high school diploma (or will graduate prior to program start).
  • Plan to enroll, or are currently enrolled, in an NMC-approved Diesel Technology program.
  • Have strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through school, hobbies, work experience, or personal projects.
  • Enjoy solving problems and working with your hands.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Have a strong attendance record and positive attitude.

  • Maintain at least a2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward graduation within 24 months.
  • Successfully complete both classroom and workplace learning requirements.
  • Demonstrate NMC Cat's core values in school, at work, and in the community.

Instead of waiting until graduation to gain experience, you'll begin building your technical skills from day one while earning a paycheck and learning from industry experts.
Many of our current technicians, service leaders, and managers began their careers through this very program.

NMC Cat has proudly served Nebraska and the surrounding region for more than 85 years as the authorized Caterpillar dealer. We invest heavily in our people because we know they are the foundation of our success.
Our commitment to training, career development, and promoting from within creates opportunities for employees to build rewarding careers that last.

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options
  • Paid Vacation and Holidays
  • Company-paid Basic Life Insurance
