Job description

1st Class Marine Structural Welder


Location: Mobile Al & Pascagoula MS
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Day Shift / Night Shift / Weekend Shift / Overtime Available
Pay: $30 - $34


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced 1st Class Marine Structural Welder to support shipbuilding, repair, and modernization projects in a shipyard environment. The ideal candidate will have advanced welding experience working on marine structural steel components aboard commercial or naval vessels. Candidates must be able to perform high-quality welds in multiple positions while meeting shipyard production and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural welding on ship hulls, bulkheads, decks, foundations, and other marine steel structures
  • Weld using FCAW, SMAW, MIG, and Stick welding processes as required
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, ship drawings, and work specifications
  • Prepare materials for welding including grinding, beveling, fitting, and alignment
  • Weld in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
  • Ensure weld quality meets shipyard, NAVSEA, ABS, and customer specifications
  • Inspect completed welds for defects and perform repairs as needed
  • Operate welding machines, grinders, torches, and related fabrication equipment safely
  • Work closely with shipfitters, supervisors, and quality control personnel to complete projects on schedule
  • Maintain clean work areas and follow all shipyard safety procedures


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of marine structural welding experience preferred
  • Must qualify as a 1st Class Structural Welder based on shipyard testing standards
  • Proficient in FCAW and SMAW welding processes required
  • Ability to pass multi-position welding tests in accordance with shipyard requirements
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols
  • Experience working on commercial, naval, or industrial marine vessels preferred
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA, ABS, and shipyard welding standards preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and physically demanding environments


Preferred Certifications

  • AWS Welding Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • NAVSEA Welding Qualifications preferred
  • Shipyard Competent Person Certification a plus
