Job description

Position Overview
The Director - Store Design plays a key role in evolving Burlington's store environments to support brand growth, customer experience, and operational excellence. This position leads the strategic design direction for interior and exterior store environments, including signage, graphics, and material finishes across the fleet. With expertise spanning store design, sign design, graphic production, and store planning, this role partners closely with Architecture, Store Planning, Construction, Merchandising, and Operations teams to deliver innovative, brand-driven solutions. The Director oversees design development from concept through rollout, ensuring solutions meet brand standards, performance goals, ADA requirements, and building codes. This highly visible role leads and mentors a team of design professionals, provides clear creative direction, and delivers concise, compelling presentations to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
A Day In The Life
Store Design
  • Partner with Architectural Project Managers, Store Planning, Merchandising, and Operations teams to design and direct concept store formats and unique store solutions.
  • Deliver brand-aligned store designs, including signage, graphics, material finishes, lighting, and store details, to meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate, Construction, Facilities, and Store Planning teams to continuously value-engineer store concepts.
  • Work closely with Architecture and Store Planning teams to create, maintain, and update prototype store documentation.
  • Develop and maintain a store interiors toolkit and exterior signage portfolio.
  • Create, manage, and maintain a materials library.
  • Mentor team members and internal partners on store design and planning principles to foster a cross-functional culture and build bench strength.
  • Supervise and support the team's store-specific development of graphics plans.
  • Ensure all design solutions comply with ADA requirements and applicable building codes.

Exterior Sign Management
  • Sign specifications and graphic standards ownership.
  • Support the procurement of national sign vendors and manage the day-to-day vendor relations.
  • Own the concept and execution of sign design for each Burlington project as part of one voice for brand concepts.

Store/Brand graphics design
  • Own the exterior and interior graphics portfolio.
  • Oversee the concept direction for project level graphics on all stores.
  • Own national account vendor relationships for graphics suppliers.
  • Travel to vendors for onsite press checks
  • Validate print resource suppliers to ensure Burlington is achieving the best results for the best value.

Leadership
  • Establish and communicate a clear creative vision aligned with Burlington's brand strategy.
  • Mentor and develop store design and graphics teams to build long-term capability.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships to improve speed, quality, and execution.
  • Drives process improvements to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Presents design concepts effectively and incorporates feedback constructively.

You'll Come With
  • BA/BS in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design related field or significant retail store design experience
  • Minimum 10 years of Store Design experience, with 5 to 7 years in a team leadership role preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent hand and computer based design skills
  • Must possess excellent written, verbal and design presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze fixture and store design challenges and provide a clear actionable solution.
  • Drive and passion for teaching and coaching to get results.
