RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Station Planning group is responsible for planning the functional design and operation of subway stations, with a focus on customer flow through stations. Our goal is to ensure that station circulation functions at guideline level of service both now and well into the future .
The position entails analyzing current and projected future passenger flow within stations and determining efficient layouts and/or required sizing of circulation and fare control elements including, but not limited to, stairs, escalators, passageways, and turnstiles. In addition to ridership demand, Station Planners consider emergency egress requirements, accessibility for people with disabilities, and convenience for intermodal connections .
Responsibilities also include analyzing and recommending construction phasing strategies and station operation plans, determining utility of potential easements, evaluating environmental review documents, and assessing the short- and long-term impacts of subway service changes.
Site visits to various subway stations, often involving data collection such as passenger counts, observations of passenger flow, measuring stair width, etc., are frequently required . Passenger counts are typically conducted during the morning and/or evening peak ridership periods.
The position requires effective collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including project design and construction teams, operating departments, city agencies, private developers, and other partners. The role will also involve researching and evaluating best practices from other transit systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Principal Transportation Planner
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: city / urban planning, transit planning, transportation science, geography, urban studies, public administration, architecture, engineering, political science, or related fields; and five (5) years of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation planning, transit scheduling or operations . A master's degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Senior Transportation Planner
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: city/urban planning, transit planning, transportation science, geography, urban studies, public administration, architecture, engineering, political science, or related fields; and four (4) years of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation planning, transit scheduling or operations . A master's degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Transportation Planner
Must possess education as stated above plus two (2) years of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation operations planning or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Assistant Transportation Planner
Must possess education as stated above plus one (1) year of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation operations planning or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
DESIRED SKILLS:

Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
