What are some common challenges faced by employees working in full-time small gig roles?

Employees in full-time small gig roles often face challenges such as balancing multiple short-term projects with varying deadlines, adapting quickly to different client expectations, and managing inconsistent workloads. These roles typically require strong time management and communication skills, as you may need to juggle priorities and collaborate with several clients or team members. However, the dynamic nature of this work can also provide opportunities to develop a diverse skill set and build a broad professional network.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Gig Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a gig worker, you need adaptability, time management, and a strong work ethic, with experience or skills tailored to the specific gigs you pursue. Familiarity with gig platforms (such as Uber, TaskRabbit, or Upwork) and digital payment systems is often required. Strong communication, customer service, and self-motivation help professionals stand out in the gig economy. These skills are crucial for efficiently managing multiple tasks, meeting client expectations, and building a reliable reputation for continued success.

What are Full Time Small Gigs?

Full Time Small Gigs are jobs that offer consistent, full-time hours but are focused on discrete, short-term tasks or projects rather than a single long-term role. These positions are often found through gig economy platforms or agencies and may involve a variety of tasks such as delivery, administrative support, or freelance assignments. Workers benefit from the flexibility and variety of gig work while still enjoying the stability of a full-time schedule. This type of work is ideal for individuals who value diverse experiences and adaptable work environments.

The Greenlight Community Coordinator is a highly visible, multidisciplinary role that sits at the intersection of sales enablement, public education, customer experience, and facility stewardship for both Greenlight Community Broadband and Gig East. This individual serves as a trusted guide for residents, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and community partners- helping them understand, adopt, and fully leverage Greenlight services and Gig East resources.
This role drives Greenlight sales through an education-first approach. The Greenlight Community Coordinator serves as a guide to residents interested in Greenlight services by spotlighting the value of Greenlight membership with technology demonstrations and community-curated outreach. This position will be Greenlight's primary representative when organizing and supporting digital skills training programs (whether owned by Greenlight or partner organizations), acting as both educator and relationship-builder, while also serving as a cornerstone presence at the Gig East Exchange, supporting daily operations, programming, Pearson Vue testing, and the overall member and visitor experience.
Success in this role requires a rare blend of people-first sales instincts, instructional confidence, operational reliability, and hospitality-driven customer service.
Job Responsibilities
Major Duties
Sales Enablement & Customer Guidance
  • Support Greenlight's residential and small business growth by guiding prospective and current customers through service options, benefits, and next steps.
  • Warm and educate audiences by demonstrating the value of Greenlight's services rather than "hard sell," building trust that leads to informed adoption and long-term satisfaction.
  • Partner closely with the Greenlight Sales and Marketing team to reinforce campaigns through in-person education, community presence, and other duties as assigned.
  • Identify customer needs and connect them to appropriate Greenlight services, programs, or referrals.
  • Support the Greenlight residential sales manager in customer prospecting, activation, and follow-up.
Gig East Exchange Operations & Facility Support
  • Serve as a reliable, visible presence at the Gig East Exchange.
  • Coordinate day-to-day facility operations, including opening/closing, space readiness, and general oversight.
  • Support the event logistics, programming execution, and community gatherings.
  • Help maintain calendars, room scheduling, and operational flow of the facility.
  • Collaborate with Exchange leadership to ensure the space reflects innovation, accessibility, and community pride.
  • Serves as a primary proctor for Gig East Exchange's Pearson Vue Testing Center.
  • Build relationships with Gig East Exchange members to ensure that Gig East is providing wrap-around support to create a path to Exchange graduation.
Community Education & Program Leadership
  • Lead, evolve, and deliver the Greenlight Education and digital skills training programs for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
  • Translate complex technology concepts (internet, connectivity, digital tools) into clear, accessible, and actionable learning experiences.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, orientations, tours, presentations, and one-on-one educational engagements.
  • Serve as a trusted community educator and ambassador for Greenlight and Gig East.
  • Develop events and programs to educate citizens on the uses and features of city applications and services.
Customer Experience & Relationship Management
  • Deliver exceptional, hospitality-forward customer service to residents, members, partners, and visitors.
  • Serve as a first point of contact at the Gig East Exchange, welcoming guests and setting the tone for the facility experience.
  • Address questions, concerns, and issues with professionalism, empathy, and follow-through.
  • Act as a liaison between customers, vendors, staff, and community partners.
Community Outreach & Partnerships
  • Represent Greenlight and Gig East at community events, meetings, and partner locations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, schools, nonprofits, and small businesses.
  • Identify opportunities to expand educational programming and community impact.

Guidelines
  • Guidelines include city, department, and Council policies and procedures, and city codes and ordinances. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
  • None

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Specialized training or experience in education, community engagement, customer service, sales support, hospitality, or a related field.
  • One to three years of relevant experience working in a public-facing, community-oriented role.
  • Experience working with technology, broadband, entrepreneurship, education, or municipal services is preferred but not required.

Knowledge Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; comfortable engaging diverse audiences.
  • Ability to educate, explain, and guide-especially in non-technical, human-centered ways.
  • Sales-adjacent mindset focused on trust, clarity, and value rather than pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating across teams.
  • Skilled in using modern technology, digital tools, and basic content platforms.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • A combination of office, events, field exposure, and on-site engagement environments.
