Description
Position Summary
The Fitter / Shop Helper provides support to Fitters by assisting with the preparation, assembly, and fabrication of subsea equipment and related components. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized work environment while assisting with material handling, equipment setup, cleaning, and other shop duties necessary to ensure efficient production. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, and eager to develop skills in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Fitters with the assembly, fitting, and fabrication of subsea equipment, structural components and assist pipe assemblers for pressure testing
  • Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, deburring, and organizing parts for fabrication.
  • Measure, mark, and position materials under the direction of the Fitter.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, and other shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Move materials, components, and finished products using forklifts, cranes, or other material-handling equipment (if qualified).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Perform basic quality checks and notify supervisors of any material defects or safety concerns.
  • Follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and supervisor direction.
  • Support other production departments as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial experience is preferred but not required.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
• Experience in welding, fitting, or metal fabrication.
• Forklift and overhead crane certification (or ability to obtain certification).
• Experience working in the oil & gas, subsea, or heavy manufacturing industry.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving equipment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hat.
