Job description

Occupational Therapist (Full-Time)

School of Imagination | Dublin, CA

About School of Imagination

School of Imagination is an inclusive early childhood education and therapy center in Dublin, California, serving children birth through age 5 with a range of developmental needs and learning profiles. We integrate speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis, and early intervention alongside our preschool program. Our mission is to bring out the extraordinary in every child — and we build that foundation through collaborative, family-centered, and evidence-based care.

Our team members are passionate about children's development, mission-aligned, and committed to working across disciplines to ensure that every child leaves us with stronger communication, regulation, learning, and life skills.

The Role: Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist at School of Imagination is a core clinical partner in an integrated early childhood developmental care system — not a stand-alone service provider.

OT sits alongside Speech-Language Pathology, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Infant Development as one of four disciplines that collectively address communication, behavior, sensory regulation, motor development, and learning in young children. At SOI, OT strategies are embedded across classroom routines, treatment plans are built collaboratively with cross-discipline clinical teams, and skill generalization is a shared responsibility.

The right candidate isn't just a strong clinician — they think in terms of the whole child and understand that the sensory and motor foundation they're building directly supports what the SLP, the BCBA, and the classroom educator are also working on.

Key Responsibilities

The OT in this role carries a full clinical caseload while contributing actively to the integrated care infrastructure. On a typical week, that includes:

  1. Assessment & Clinical Evaluation

    • Conduct standardized and clinical assessments of sensory processing, fine motor, gross motor, self-regulation, and functional daily living skills

    • Write clear, actionable evaluation reports and treatment plans

  2. Direct Service Delivery

    • Deliver individual and small-group therapy sessions aligned to each child's treatment plan and IEP goals

    • Document progress and adjust interventions based on child response and clinical indicators

  3. Interdisciplinary Collaboration

    • Participate actively in case conferences with Speech, ABA, and Infant Development colleagues

    • Coordinate goals and ensure treatment approaches across disciplines are mutually reinforcing

    • Contribute to integrated problem-solving around challenging behaviors or skill barriers

  4. Documentation & Compliance

    • Complete all required documentation in CentralReach (progress notes, treatment plans, goal updates) with accuracy and on-time consistency

    • Maintain compliance with billing, licensing, and clinical documentation standards

  5. Family & Caregiver Coaching

    • Provide parent and caregiver training to extend OT strategies into home and community settings

    • Support families in understanding their child's sensory and motor needs

  6. Clinical Leadership & Organizational Contribution

    • Participate in the Clinical Leadership Council and other cross-discipline structures that sustain the integrated model

    • Contribute to team culture, professional development, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications
  • California OT License (OTR/L) — required to begin

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program

  • Commitment to interprofessional collaboration and evidence-based practice

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — particularly with families and interdisciplinary teams

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and documentation systems (familiarity with CentralReach preferred but not required)

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in pediatric or early childhood settings

  • Experience with children with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, or sensory processing needs

  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)

  • Background or training in sensory integration, neurodevelopmental approaches, or family-centered early intervention

  • Experience with IEP development and special education processes

Working Conditions
  • Full-time position (~40 hours/week)

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, during business hours

  • Location: 9801 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, CA (in-person clinical work)

  • Environment: Classroom, therapy rooms, and our School of Imagination and Happy Talkers campus in the Dublin hills — surrounded by nature with outdoor learning spaces and gross motor areas; exposure to typical early childhood activity and learning environments

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $93,000–$110,000/year, based on experience and qualifications

  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, vision coverage

  • Retirement: 401(k) plan

  • Paid Time Off: Generous PTO + paid holidays

  • Professional Development: Continuing education support; access to training in our integrated care model and evidence-based practices

  • Mission-Driven Culture: Work alongside experienced clinicians, educators, and a deeply committed team

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to Co-Founder & Executive Director.
