Title: Library and Media Support Specialist

Position Type:10 Month, Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
FLSA Status: Exempt
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, valid Pennsylvania certification appropriate for assignment (Special Education N-12, Reading Specialist, Library Science, or a related field)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a special education setting.
  • Comfortable using and assisting others with technology and digital learning tools.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to support students with diverse learning needs in a patient, respectful, and encouraging manner.

General Duties and Responsibilities
The Library and Media Support Specialist is responsible for the daily operations of the school library and media center. This position supports students and staff by maintaining library resources, managing media and technology equipment, and fostering a welcoming environment that promotes literacy, information access, and digital learning. The Specialist ensures that all students, including those with diverse learning needs, have equitable access to library and media resources.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver age-appropriate library and media lessons for students in grades K 12,focusing on literacy development, research skills, digital citizenship, and responsible media use.
  • Maintain the organization and accessibility of library and media center materials, including books, periodicals, digital media, and equipment.
  • Assist students and staff in locating, borrowing, and using materials and technology.
  • Promote reading and media literacy through displays, student-friendly programs, and classroom collaborations.
  • Support teachers in integrating library and media resources into classroom instruction.
  • Manage library circulation, inventory, and basic cataloging of materials.
  • Oversee proper care and use of technology, audiovisual equipment, and media center tools.
  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and positive student interactions.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks related to library operations, budgeting, and ordering supplies.
  • Support students' individual needs and abilities, ensuring equitable access to materials and technology.
  • Assist in coordinating library schedules, student visits, and small group activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to enhance access to educational resources and digital tools.
  • Performs related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
