Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Health Representative III in the Department of Emergency Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).
Under supervision of Emergency Medicine and the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES), the Public Health Representative III participates in the development, administration and implementation of public health programs and performs both office and field work related to health screening, diagnostic, and linkage-to-care services; and poison control center services. Assists in identifying community health needs and supporting program activities that promote disease prevention and control, with a focus on HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and poison prevention. Coordinates with healthcare providers, community organizations, stakeholders, and public health agencies to support patient follow-up, reporting, and access to care; performs related duties as required.
Responsible for fostering statewide public awareness on poisoning injury risk, poison prevention safety, and the services of the poison control center by providing poison prevention education programs and community outreach to diverse populations within the state of New Jersey.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates NJPIES' statewide community education programs and outreach activities. It is anticipated that 25-40% of overall time will be dedicated to field work (health fairs, educational programs, special events) with the remainder in the office.
  • Assists supervisory personnel in administering public health program activities by identifying community health needs and supporting the development of appropriate interventions, including poisoning injury prevention, disease prevention, screening, and linkage-to-care services.
  • Does the office and/or field work required to promote the objectives of a specific public health program for poisoning prevention, as well as HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C screening and linkage to care.
  • Works with municipal, county, and local health authorities, as well as healthcare providers and community-based organizations, to coordinate program activities involving patients, healthcare personnel, residents, and government officials.
  • Assists in conducting public health surveys, screenings, and testing activities (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis B and C), including collection of specimens, data gathering, and follow-up activities; compiles and maintains data for program evaluation and reporting.
