Director of Construction / Responsible Managing Employee (RME)

Location: San Jose, CA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced construction leader to serve as a Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for our California contractor license (Class B – General Building Contractor).

This role is critical to enabling SK AX USA to expand its capability as a prime contractor for large-scale infrastructure and mission-critical projects, including data center developments.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on construction experience, strong project leadership, and a deep understanding of California construction regulations, and will play a key role in both license qualification and project execution governance.

Key Responsibilities

Contractor License & Compliance

  • Serve as the designated Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for CSLB licensing (Class B)
  • Support application, qualification, and maintenance of California contractor license
  • Ensure compliance with all CSLB regulations, permitting, and inspection requirements

Project Oversight & Execution Governance

  • Provide oversight of design, construction planning, and execution
  • Review and validate construction methodologies, schedules, and budgets
  • Establish and enforce construction standards and best practices
  • Support evaluation and selection of general contractors and subcontractors

Construction Leadership

  • Act as the internal authority on construction execution and field operations
  • Advise executive leadership on risk, constructability, and delivery strategy
  • Lead coordination with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors

Risk & Quality Management

  • Identify and mitigate construction risks
  • Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards
  • Support resolution of construction-related issues and disputes

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 4+ years of verifiable construction experience within the last 10 years (CSLB requirement)
  • Experience in roles such as:
    • Project Manager
    • Construction Manager
    • Superintendent
    • Field Engineer / Foreman
  • Proven experience managing commercial, industrial, or data center projects
  • Strong knowledge of California building codes, permitting, and inspection processes
  • Ability to qualify as RME for CSLB Class B license

Preferred

  • Experience with data center, semiconductor, or mission-critical facilities
  • Background with top-tier general contractors (e.g., DPR, Turner, Devcon, Whiting-Turner)
  • Experience in design-build or EPC environments
  • Familiarity with large-scale infrastructure programs

Employment Requirements

  • Must be actively involved in company operations and construction oversight
