Job Title: Project Manager – Sterile Processing Services (SPS)

Specialty: Sterile Processing Services (SPS) / Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) Management

Site: Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Houston, TX

Location: 2002 Holcombe Boulevard Houston, TX 77030

Duration: 1-year contract with the possibility of up to 2 additional one-year extensions.
Shift Schedule:
Sunday through Saturday coverage.
Primarily standard business hours aligned with facility operations; must oversee all shifts including days, evenings, and overnight coverage as required.
24-hour availability by phone for emergencies.

Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks

How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: Full-time position (approximately 160 hours per month). Must ensure staffing coverage for 24/7 operations.

License: No state license required.

Certifications: Sterile Processing certification (HSPA or CBSPD) preferred

Experience Needed: Minimum 3 years supervisory experience required. Extensive experience as a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing Services)

Special Skills Needed:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Experience supervising sterile processing operations in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of AAMI standards, infection control, and RME reprocessing
  • Experience with instrumentation tracking systems
  • Ability to manage staffing schedules and contingency planning
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and critical situations within 30 minutes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and VA-required systems

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily sterile processing operations and ensure full compliance with VA policies, manufacturer instructions, and quality assurance standards.
  • Manage and supervise Medical Supply Technicians, coordinate staffing to maintain 24/7 coverage, conduct quality control inspections across all shifts, prepare and submit monthly status reports, and serve as the primary point of contact between the contractor and the VA Contracting Officer Representative.
  • Ensure staff training, certifications, and competency requirements are maintained.

Misc:

  • Cannot perform Medical Supply Technician duties under this contract.
  • Must ensure alternate Project Manager coverage during absence.
