Role Description:
As a Senior Structural Engineer/Engineering Manager at Shangrila Engineers, you will step into a high-impact, full-time remote technical leadership role. You will head the design, analysis, and verification of complex structural systems, bridging the gap between structural engineering of record (EOR), detailers, and fabricators. This position requires an independent problem-solver who specializes in structural steel connection design, miscellaneous steel elements, and secondary structures for commercial applications, thriving with high autonomy in a multidisciplinary environment.
Day-to-Day Impact:
- Specialized Connection Design: Perform and review structural steel connection calculations.
- Miscellaneous & Secondary Steel Engineering: Perform the structural design, analysis, and detailing of commercial components, including steel stairs, railings, canopies, steel buildings, pergolas, and commercial signage/support structures.
- Code Compliance & Quality: Conduct rigorous structural analysis and peer reviews to ensure absolute compliance with AISC Specifications (AISC 360/341), AISI (cold-formed steel), and building codes (IBC/ASCE 7).
- Drawings & Modeling: Prepare, check, and optimize engineering drawings and 3D models, collaborating directly with fabricators, steel detailers, and architects using tools like Tekla, SDS2, or AutoCAD.
- Team Mentorship: Manage engineering deliverables, participate in coordination meetings, and provide dedicated technical guidance and calculation reviews to junior engineers and designers.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s or specialized structural coursework preferred).
- Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license is a plus.
- Core Specialty: 10+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with a proven track record focusing heavily on steel connection design and miscellaneous commercial steel elements (stairs, railings, canopies, pergolas, signs).
- Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in specialized connection software (e.g., RAM Connection, RISAConnection, IDEA StatiCa, Descon) and familiarity with detailing workflows.
- Execution: Demonstrated ability to lead technical project scopes independently, evaluate constructability to minimize field-fix costs, and thrive in a 100% remote work setting.
Benefits/Compensation: We believe in rewarding senior talent directly for their expertise without making them jump through corporate hoops.
- Base Salary: This is a full-time remote position, preferably based in Houston, TX, or anywhere in the USA. Competitive salary plus bonus shall be offered for the right candidate.
- 100% Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere with flexible daily hours—we measure your output and deliverables, not your clock punches
