The Legal Compliance Officer is responsible for addressing and/or providing support to designated areas of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) on state legal, regulatory, and compliance related matters. The position ensures that all Department legal needs are promptly and fully supported, coordinated, communicated and addressed. This includes developing departmental legal strategies, policies, and procedures. This position serves as a liaison with the Attorney General and other state agencies regarding litigation that affects the Department.
The Legal Compliance Officer serves as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Senior Coordinator and Title II Reasonable Accommodation Coordinator for designated areas of LEO. As the Department's Regulatory Affairs Officer, this individual will coordinate the promulgation of rules with the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (MOAHR).
The position must work collaboratively with existing internal LEO staff that perform these functions within specific agencies/bureaus and may serve as an expert resource on matters that are complex, sensitive or have departmentwide impact on internal and external customers.
There is a possibility of a remote/hybrid schedule based on performance and operational need. However, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
