Job description

Trueline is seeking a Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy to join its Staten Island, New York team, for a growing multi-office tax and accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses,. This hands-on leader will guide tax strategy, manage and develop staff, and help clients turn accurate financials into smarter business decisions. The position offers a clear path to Director for someone ready to build structure, expand advisory services, and support the firm's national growth plans.

What You'll Do as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:

  • Lead day-to-day tax operations while serving as a trusted resource for tax preparers, bookkeepers, and support staff
  • Review financial statements, P&Ls, and bookkeeping records to identify tax-saving opportunities and provide proactive recommendations
  • Prepare and review tax returns while knowing when to delegate work across the team
  • Meet directly with individuals and business owners to explain tax strategies in clear, practical language
  • Manage a fast-moving client appointment schedule during tax season, including scheduled and walk-in meetings
  • Mentor staff, strengthen technical knowledge, and create clear standards for quality, accountability, and client service
  • Guide bookkeepers on changes needed to improve reporting, compliance, and tax readiness
  • Review QuickBooks files, identify bookkeeping issues, and connect financial activity to broader tax and business strategy
  • Identify additional services that could benefit clients, including bookkeeping, planning, and advisory support
  • Help build the structure, processes, and team needed to support continued growth across multiple offices
  • Travel to other office locations as needed

Must-Haves as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:

  • Strong tax preparation and review experience at the Tax Manager, Tax Supervisor, or advanced Senior Tax Accountant level
  • Experience advising individuals and small business owners on proactive tax strategies
  • Ability to review a P&L and other financial reports, recognize planning opportunities, and communicate recommendations to clients
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and sound accounting practices
  • Strong QuickBooks knowledge, including the ability to review and troubleshoot client books
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing tax or accounting professionals
  • Confidence delegating work while remaining willing to handle complex or time-sensitive assignments personally
  • Strong client-facing communication skills and the ability to manage difficult or high-pressure conversations
  • A direct, honest, and transparent working style, including the confidence to raise concerns and respectfully challenge decisions
  • Ability to work from the Staten Island office and visit other locations when needed

Nice-to-Haves as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:

  • CPA license
  • QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
  • Experience leading teams across multiple offices
  • Background in client accounting services, bookkeeping oversight, or outsourced CFO advisory
  • Experience managing a high-volume tax preparation environment
  • Business development, cross-selling, or client relationship expansion experience

This Role Offers:

  • Base salary of $110,000-$135,000
  • Total earning potential up to approximately $150,000 through performance-based bonus compensation
  • Opportunity to advance to Director within approximately one to two years
  • Medical coverage through UnitedHealthcare with an employer contribution
  • 401(k) with a 3% employer match
  • PTO that may be negotiated up to three weeks based on experience
  • Early Friday office closures during designated off-peak periods
  • Paid federal holidays and additional scheduled holiday closures
  • A close-knit workplace built around integrity, candor, mutual respect, and accountability
  • The opportunity to shape a growing tax advisory function rather than simply inherit an established process

Trueline and its clients are unabashed equal-opportunity employers committed to a diverse workforce. We welcome smart and ambitious applicants and recruit, refer, hire, place, and promote without regard to race, color, gender, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by federal or state law.
