Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

Full Time Prompt Engineering focuses on designing and optimizing prompts for AI models, primarily in NLP tasks. Data Scientists analyze data to build models and generate insights. While both roles require technical skills and often overlap in AI projects, Prompt Engineers specialize in prompt design, whereas Data Scientists focus on data analysis and modeling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Prompt Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Prompt Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, natural language processing, and machine learning, often supported by a relevant degree or experience with AI models. Familiarity with tools like Python, large language model APIs (such as OpenAI or Anthropic), and prompt optimization frameworks is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and clear written communication are crucial soft skills for designing effective prompts and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure the development of high-performing AI solutions and the ability to translate user needs into actionable, efficient prompts.

What are some common challenges faced by Full Time Prompt Engineers, and how can they overcome them?

Full Time Prompt Engineers often encounter the challenge of crafting prompts that consistently yield accurate, relevant, and unbiased responses from AI models. Adapting to rapidly evolving AI technologies and understanding nuanced model behaviors can also be demanding. Overcoming these challenges requires staying current with the latest AI developments, collaborating closely with data scientists and developers, and continuously testing and refining prompts based on feedback and performance metrics. Embracing a mindset of experimentation and regular communication within cross-functional teams is key to success in this dynamic field.

What is prompt engineering?

Prompt engineering is the practice of designing, testing, and refining the inputs (prompts) given to artificial intelligence models, such as large language models, to achieve specific and desirable outputs. This role involves understanding how AI models interpret language and using that knowledge to create prompts that guide the model toward accurate, relevant, or creative responses. Prompt engineers often work closely with developers, data scientists, and product teams to optimize AI performance for various applications. As AI models become more advanced, prompt engineering has become an essential skill for leveraging their full potential.

We are seeking an exceptional Staff or Principal Engineer to join our client's engineering leadership team. This is a senior individual contributor role for a technologist who thrives at the intersection of modern software engineering and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will bring deep full-stack expertise across C#, React, and Python, paired with a demonstrated ability to lead and champion AI-assisted development practices-spanning LLM integration, MLOps, prompt engineering, and AI-powered product features. Based in the US with a strong preference for East Coast availability, this engineer will set the technical direction for how AI amplifies our engineering teams and shapes our healthcare platform
Role & responsibilities
โ€ข Serve as a technical leader and trusted authority on AI-assisted engineering, driving adoption of Copilot, code generation, and LLM-powered tooling across the engineering organization.
โ€ข Architect and deliver AI-powered product features that improve healthcare outcomes-spanning intelligent automation, clinical decision support, and member-facing experiences.
โ€ข Design and implement LLM workflows and prompt engineering patterns, ensuring reliable, safe, and scalable AI integrations in production environments.
โ€ข Lead MLOps initiatives including model deployment pipelines, monitoring, versioning, and lifecycle management in collaboration with data science teams.
โ€ข Build and maintain full-stack solutions using C# (.NET), React, and Python, with a strong focus on scalability, security, and maintainability.
โ€ข Define and evangelize engineering best practices for AI integration, code quality, and system design across Staff and Senior engineers.
โ€ข Collaborate with product, data, and clinical teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI and machine learning in the healthcare domain.
โ€ข Conduct design reviews, architecture discussions, and hands-on code reviews to raise the technical bar across the organization.

โ€ข Stay at the forefront of rapidly evolving AI/ML tooling, evaluating and recommending emerging technologies relevant to the client
You're a Perfect Match If You Have:
โ€ข Deep proficiency in C# and .NET - including API design, microservices architecture, and enterprise-grade backend systems.
โ€ข Strong hands-on experience with React and modern front-end development patterns (TypeScript, component architecture, state management).
โ€ข Solid Python skills with practical experience in scripting, automation, data pipelines, or ML model integration.
โ€ข Proven experience integrating LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic) into production applications via APIs, SDKs, or orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or Semantic Kernel.
โ€ข Strong understanding of prompt engineering principles, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) patterns, and LLM evaluation strategies.
โ€ข Hands-on experience with MLOps tooling and practices - model versioning, deployment, monitoring, and retraining pipelines.
โ€ข Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent, with the ability to coach teams on effective usage.
โ€ข Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred) and how to architect scalable, secure AI-integrated systems.
โ€ข Strong command of software design principles - SOLID, clean architecture, domain-driven design, and API-first development.
โ€ข Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices in a cloud-native environment.
Optional / Plus
โ€ข Experience in healthcare technology, including knowledge of HL7, FHIR, or clinical data standards.
โ€ข Familiarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Azure AI Search) for embedding-based retrieval systems.
โ€ข Exposure to fine-tuning or customizing foundation models for domain-specific use cases.
โ€ข Knowledge of responsible AI practices, model explainability, and bias mitigation in healthcare contexts.
โ€ข Experience with data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure Synapse.
