About This Role
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Finance Process Documentation Consultant to help document and analyze complex financial data and operational processes. Working across multiple business functions, you will develop a clear understanding of how critical financial data is sourced, transformed, managed, and consumed throughout the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys uncovering undocumented processes, interviewing stakeholders, tracing data flows, and translating complex workflows into clear, actionable documentation. Your work will create the foundation for future process improvement, governance, and automation initiatives.
Work Location: Remote, aligned to Pacific Time.
Duration: 3-month contract for the initial phase, with potential for future phases.
Pay Rate Range: $65/hr-$75/hr, depending on experience.
What You Will Work On
  • Map and document complex end-to-end finance and business processes across multiple functional teams.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand current workflows, ownership, dependencies, controls, and decision-making processes.
  • Trace data from source systems through downstream processes and outputs, documenting key inputs, transformations, business rules, and handoffs.
  • Review existing SQL scripts, spreadsheets, lookups, matching logic, and manual data processes to understand how information is processed and utilized.
  • Identify undocumented procedures, process dependencies, knowledge gaps, and operational risks.
  • Create detailed written documentation and process maps that clearly communicate current-state workflows.
  • Develop user-friendly process narratives, workflows, and visual process diagrams using tools such as Lucidchart, Visio, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Office.
  • Surface process inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver documentation that can be leveraged by future business, technical, or automation teams to support transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with finance, operations, and business stakeholders to establish a comprehensive current-state view of critical business processes.

What You Will Bring
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, business operations, or enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting complex finance business processes and translating stakeholder knowledge into clear written and visual deliverables.
  • Ability to read and understand SQL queries and data transformations to identify source data, logic, and outputs.
  • Experience creating or modifying SQL is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency working with spreadsheets, data analysis, lookups, and data transformation logic.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to trace data across multiple systems and processes.
  • Experience developing process maps, workflow diagrams, standard operating procedures, or current-state assessments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize large volumes of information into organized, actionable documentation.
  • Consulting mindset with the ability to work independently in an evolving environment.
  • Prior experience supporting process improvement, transformation, governance, or automation initiatives is highly desirable.

What You Can Expect
  • An inspirational place for you to do your best work, be engaged in meaningful ways, and continually develop the skills, competencies and qualities that set our team apart.
  • Compensation commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and other factors including geographic location, market and operational factors.
  • Total Rewards include: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, 401(k) Savings Plan, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Professional Development Program, Paid Time Off and Paid Sick Time (in geographies where legally required).
