Hyperbaric Technologist - Wound Care Clinic

SUMMARY:

Coordinates safe and effective operations for the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems, including performing patient care. Is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepares, educates and orients patients about the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. This includes lifting or transferring patients per local policy, getting them ready for treatment administration and answering their questions.

Administers the hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider to the patient. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance of the hyperbaric chamber equipment, as well as monitoring the patient(s)'responses during the session and making proper adjustments to ensure the patient's safety and the safe and effective use of the equipment.

Makes appropriate data entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits and keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation, to include photo uploading.

Operates and maintains the hyperbaric chamber and other hyperbaric support oxygen systems as required

Participates in the safety program activities such as assisting with safety drills

Performs other duties as required.

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: One (1) years of related experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Minimum of, but not limited to, CNA, MA, or EMT certification with eligibility to complete the Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course, as approved by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society or equivalent. CHT (Certified hyperbaric technologist) preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of federal, state and hospital institutional policies and procedures for patient care and records management.
  • Skill in code response and resuscitation and assisting with ventilation and advanced life support monitoring for patients.
  • Skill in administering care and monitoring patients as prescribed by a Physician, and in compliance with respiratory care procedures and policies.
  • Skill in the use of computer applications and programs including Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to train others in the proper patient care and bariatric procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to prepare and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to develop and present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
