Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate medical complaints and diagnose conditions accurately.
  • Perform a range of minor surgical procedures under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons, assisting in operations as needed.
  • Manage the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients, closely monitoring their progress and report critical information to attending physicians.
  • Utilize advanced assessment tools and skills to identify potential complications in surgical patients, ensuring timely interventions.
  • Assist in collecting thorough patient histories and data needed for evaluation and treatment planning.
  • Order, interpret, and analyze laboratory tests, including blood and urine samples, to provide accurate patient diagnoses.
  • Implement treatment plans and monitor patient responses, communicating any significant changes to the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients and their families on preventive health care measures and post-surgical care instructions to enhance recovery.
  • Maintain and prepare medical supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, utilizing your training to provide critical care as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervising physicians to support the overall operations of the orthopedic department.
Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will primarily engage with patients undergoing orthopedic surgeries and treatments, ranging from sports injuries to joint replacements. Your compassionate care will help ensure clarity and comfort for patients navigating surgical procedures and recovery protocols. By fostering meaningful relationships, you will play a pivotal role in patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program, holding at minimum a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A valid Physician Assistant license in California and current certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with specialty certifications as required by the orthopedic department.
  • Strong technical proficiency with medical instruments and equipment utilized in surgical settings.
Preferred Experience
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, with specific exposure to orthopedic practices recommended.
  • Demonstrated abilities in managing complex patient situations, coupled with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
