Key Responsibilities:

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for delivering preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare services while promoting patient education and supporting overall clinical efficiency. The role works collaboratively with dentists, front office personnel, and clinical support teams, and is supported by Dental Assistants to facilitate operatory preparation, patient flow, radiographs, sterilization support, and clinical efficiency initiatives.


S/he will help to treat patients and promote good oral health practices, and will conduct initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth (e.g. removing plaque), and advise patients on oral health and preventative care. Will also assist the dentist(s) to decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform routine dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling and root planing, and apply preventive materials such as sealants and fluoride.
  • Conduct oral cancer screenings and periodontal evaluations.
  • Take and interpret dental X-rays as required.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and the importance of oral health as it relates to overall wellness.
  • Review and update patient medical histories and document all procedures in the electronic dental record (e.g., Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft).
  • Assist in developing individual care plans based on the dentist's diagnosis and patient risk factors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized operatory environment; ensure all instruments are properly sterilized according to OSHA standards.
  • Collaborate with dentists and other clinical staff to provide excellent patient care.
  • Support scheduling follow-up appointments and maintaining hygiene recall system.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience preferred (new graduates welcome to apply).
  • Proficient in EMR and digital charting systems.
  • Patient-focused with a gentle chairside manner.

  • Frequent use of dental instruments and PPE.
