What jobs can I work on OPT?

On OPT, international students can work in jobs related to their field of study, including roles in engineering, healthcare, IT, finance, education, and other professional sectors. The work must be directly related to the student's major and can include full-time, part-time, or temporary positions, often requiring relevant skills and sometimes certifications or licenses.

What is the difference between Full Time Opt Visa vs Part Time Opt Visa?

EligibilityFull-time student status, approved OPTPart-time student status, approved OPT
PurposeGain full-time work experience in field of studyGain part-time work experience during studies

Full Time Opt Visa allows students to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) during their OPT period, maximizing work experience and maintaining eligibility. Part Time Opt Visa permits part-time work, often during studies, but may limit total OPT duration. Both options require approval and are used to gain practical experience aligned with the student's field of study.

Is it hard to find a job with OPT?

Finding a job with OPT can vary depending on the industry, location, and individual skills. Many employers are open to hiring OPT students, especially those with in-demand skills or relevant experience, but competition and visa requirements can influence job availability.

Can you work full time with an OPT?

Full-time OPT allows international students on an F-1 visa to work up to 40 hours per week in their field of study after completing their academic program. Students must ensure their employment is directly related to their major and report their employment to their school's international office. Working full time during OPT is common and permitted as long as these conditions are met.

Can I work two full-time jobs on OPT?

On OPT, a full-time international student can generally work only for one employer at a time unless they have multiple EADs or are authorized for multiple jobs. Working multiple full-time jobs simultaneously may violate OPT regulations and jeopardize visa status. It is important to ensure all employment complies with USCIS rules and the terms of OPT authorization.
