Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote) - Brisbane, CA Please note that this role is not eligible for fully remote work, with no exceptions.
Position Type: W-2 employee, fixed-term (5 months), full-time contract with potential for conversion based on business needs.
About the RoleAs a Technical Writer at Odoo, you'll create accurate, engaging technical content across User Documentation and eLearning Tutorials. You must have strong technical skills and the ability to explain complex information clearly and practically.
You'll become a product expert, manage documentation through GitHub, write scripts for large audiences, and collaborate with writers, designers, and producers to deliver high-quality projects efficiently.
About the TeamWe're one of two global technical writing teams responsible for product education across Odoo's platform. Our team, based within the Marketing department, prioritizes accurate representation of product capabilities and clear problem-solution framing. This helps customers (typically SMBs) understand not just how Odoo works, but the value it brings them.
Responsibilities
  • Independently author user documentation and eLearning video tutorials (with occasional writing of product webpages and app tour videos) to educate new users and demonstrate business flows.
  • Revise and maintain existing content written by multiple contributors over different Odoo versions, incorporating peer feedback and adhering to content guidelines.
  • Read and write in RST markup and submit new/improved documentation using Git. Perform content and technical reviews using GitHub.
  • Work cross-functionally with consultants and functional support, with occasional input from R&D, to stay up-to-date on the latest Odoo features and capabilities. Ensure that knowledge is accurately provided to customers across Odoo's various communication channels, including user documentation, website product pages, video tutorials, and more.
  • Manage your own project pipeline using Odoo Project, independently determining and prioritizing content updates based on product changes.

Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in technical or content writing, with a focus on business applications or software platforms.
  • A portfolio of writing samples that demonstrate technical documentation and creative writing skills.
  • Experience with technical documentation, specifically within ERP or SaaS environments.
  • Proficiency with Git/GitHub or similar version control systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Nice to Have
  • Has owned multiple content formats: user guides, API or developer docs, tutorial scripts, UI copy, or video narration.
  • Comfortable reading API documentation, navigating a codebase for context, or working with structured authoring formats (DITA, XML, Confluence, Jira).
  • Has worked directly with engineering, product, QA, and support.

What's great in the job?
  • Healthcare, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Account, 401K Matching, and Commuter Benefits
  • PTO (Paid-time-off), paid sick days, and paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program: 3 X 1-hour telehealth calls with certified mental health professionals
  • Evolve in a nice working atmosphere with a passionate, growing team!
  • Snacks, fruit, and coffee/drinks on tap!
  • Chef-prepared lunches - snacks, fruit, and coffee/drinks on tap!
