Job description

Communications Specialist

This position is a full-time Federal position located at NASA HQ in Washington, DC that pays $85,000 annually.  Full-time employees with Alexton also receive paid vacation and sick leave, health benefits, paid short/long term disability, and 401(k) with matching.  


A. Research, write, edit, and produce materials to inform employees of agency

policies, news, events, and programs through a variety of communication tools.

B. Assists in planning, preparing, communication, and executing events for the director and employees.

C. Conducts meetings with executives and managers coordinating information to provide accurate communication messages.

D. Research, write, edit, and produce communication plans for agency wide messaging.

E. Recommends strategies to improve units and agency communication.

F. Develop outreach, and communications activities and products to raise

awareness and visibility of the office’s products and services.

G. Establish and maintain mutual communications between the stakeholders and

industry, universities, other government agencies, and the public.

H. Create and update communications products in support of the office’s mission,

including press releases, brochures, web content, social media, and major reports.

I. Drafting executive level talking points and speeches for director ‘s internal or external engagements.

J. Developing/updating content for internally-facing and externally-facing webpages as needed, including coordinating with site managers.

K. Experience with decision making that involve major uncertainties with regard to the most effective approach and methodology to be utilized in accomplishing the work due to rapidly evolving Internet technologies.

L. Experience with online marketing and brand development including skill in developing strategies for disseminating content across multiple channels, including blogs and social networks.

M.Experience in using multimedia editors such as Adobe Audition, Premiere, and Photoshop, in addition to CMS platforms, SEO, web metrics software, as well as adobe premiere pro or final cut.

N. Experience in developing and executing online programs, including live events; in producing visual and/or multi-media content such as photos, videos, infographics, and data visualizations.
