GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Reads water meters and records water consumption; performs service connections and disconnections.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
โ€ข Performs service connections and disconnections as a result of an emergency, customer request, or non-payment.
โ€ข Obtains and records meter readings at the location and time of service connection or disconnection.
โ€ข Obtains and records joined initial and final readings using Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) analytics software.
โ€ข Facilitates drive-by meter readings as needed.
โ€ข Locates and uncovers buried meters.
โ€ข Inspects meters for tampering, malfunctions or operational deficiencies; maintains documentation of any observed irregularities.
โ€ข Clears mud and debris from meter cases.
โ€ข Notifies customers of account deficiencies (i.e., abnormal reading, lack of deposit, notice of disconnection).
โ€ข Responds to customer inquiries.
โ€ข Reports questionable readings, water leaks and vacant residences where service has not been disconnected.
โ€ข Reports meters in need of repair or replacement; replaces broken or non-functioning meters, including lid and wire replacements.
โ€ข Retrieves customer account payments from drop-box locations and delivers to Customer Service.
โ€ข Places new addresses in correct route and reading sequence order.
โ€ข Assists in upgrading the system.
โ€ข Trains and instructs staff on methods and procedures.
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months of experience performing utility service connections/disconnections; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Water utility connection/disconnection and meter reading experience preferred. Knowledge of Okaloosa County roads is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate hand-held electronic equipment. Requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position requires the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s); and be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any directions. Requires the ability to traverse irregular, uneven, and/or erratically moving surfaces frequently. This position requires continuous periods of walking and/or standing. Requires the ability to position self for work in confide areas or for work overhead. Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in or from standardized situations; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add and subtract totals. May require the ability to multiply and divide.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
