Job description

Texas Meter & Device is hiring for a full-time meter reader (gas) in the North Texas area.  The service area is north central and north east of the DFW metroplex and includes many of these areas: Flower Mound, The Colony, Frisco, Corinth, Allen and others.

Readers on this project are considered full time; however, currently, readers on the project are averaging 4-6 hours per day to complete their assigned routes. So it is full-time pay and benefits while working 25-30 hours/week - Don't let this opportunity pass you by!

Under the general direction of the Project/Field Supervisor, the Meter Reader will be reading residential and commercial gas meters.

Responsibilities include:

  • Will read residential class and commercial class gas meters
  • Use a hand held device provided by the company to record accurate read information
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed
  • Oversee any materials, uniforms, equipment, vehicle and tools required to complete the work
  • Be punctual and dependable to a set work schedule
  • Recording of subsequent information in the field as required
  • Coordinate scheduling and meets quality / quantity requirements
  • Provide for excellence in internal and external customer service by creating a positive experience for customers, end users and communities through professional and courteous behavior and producing high quality results
  • Demonstrate, at all times, safety in all aspects of the work including driving, parking, accessing customer property, and adherence to all TMD safety standards and operating procedures
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned or necessary

Requirements:

  • Mechanical aptitude is necessary
  • Ability to use hand held device and other equipment as required for the position
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stand on feet, bend or stoop for a prolonged period of time. The work is performed outdoors and through inclement weather as necessary
  • Ability to carry out duties in a safe and efficient manner

  • Previous meter reading experience preferred but not required
  • Good Communication Skills (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record

  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle
  • Additional Requirements: Background check clearance including drug screening and I-9 documentation as required by law

Shift and Pay Info:

After training, pay is piece rate and technicians on a similar project are currently averaging between $27/hr or more.

Training wage is $18/hr and training generally lasts 2-5 days at most. As we stand up the project, the length of training may vary.

Monday – Friday, with Saturday work REQUIRED at times

Work hours are generally between the hours of 6:30am - 4pm (no more than an 8 hour shift during this time frame). Currently, readers on the project are averaging 4-6 hours per day to complete their assigned routes.
