About the Role:
The Meter Reader reports to the Meter Services Supervisor at Bermex. This position plays a key role in reading and inspecting gas, electric, and/or water meters. This position also requires a high degree of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.ย

What Youโ€™ll Do:
Meter Reading:ย 
  • Read meters on a daily and/or special basis, typically on a customerโ€™s premises for service bills.
  • Carry out assigned duties in the required time frame for cycle readings, assign sequence numbers to new services, and rearrange meter reading routes as necessary.ย 
  • Inspect meters and report damage or apparent malfunctions to assigned supervisor.ย 
  • Evaluate unsafe conditions or clean out meter boxes.ย 
  • Use electric, gas, water meter reading devices.ย 
  • Use hand tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, flashlights, keys, gas detectors, generators, pumps, hand pumps, shovels, lid handles, etc.ย 
  • Use printed materials such as service orders, maps, manuals, and computer printouts.ย 
  • Assist with training of new meter readers.ย 

Read Meters in Various Environmental Conditions:ย 
  • Extensively walk and stand for much of the workday.
  • Walk for long distances (occasionally up to 20 miles per day) in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.)ย 
  • Exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10lbs of force, up to an occasional 50lbs of force).

Customer Communication:ย 
  • Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities.ย 
  • Provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable.ย 
  • Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate.ย 

Other duties as assigned.ย 
About You:
Must haves:ย 
  • Education: Some high school education, must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience: No experience necessary, employees will be trained. Must possess a valid driverโ€™s license.

Nice to haves:ย 
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in meter reading or working in outdoor conditions.

  • Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team.ย 
  • Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling. ย 
  • Adequate time management skills to finish daily meter reads in a timely manner, figuring out an efficient way to read meters for that day.ย 
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers.ย 
  • Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner.ย 
  • Excellent attention to detail for problem solving and finding.ย 
  • Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly.
