Job description

Shady Side Academyโ€™s Senior School is seeking a full-time Math Teacher for the 2026-27 academicย year. The Math Teacher will instruct students in grades 9-12 through a variety of math classes ranging from Algebra I to post AP Calculus courses. The Math Teacher would join several other colleagues as part of the mathematics department. A successful Math Teacher engages students in meaningful learning experiences that meet their needs and gives them the confidence to take risks.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Keeps students at the center of their decision-making and practice
  • Teach 4 or 5 sections of mathematics
  • Collaborates with colleagues and supports endeavors that benefit the larger community
  • Cultivates positive partnerships with parents through consistent and transparent communication about their childโ€™s progress
  • Collaborates in creating innovative curricula, pedagogy, and assessment
  • Participates in other assigned duties as determined by the Head of Senior School, including advisory and 5th duties

A bachelorโ€™s degree in mathematics or related field is required and a masterโ€™s degree in math or related field is strongly preferred.

Ideal candidate will have:
  • Prior secondary school experience as a math teacher
  • Ability to work as a team with the mathematics faculty
  • An interest in interdisciplinary work between departments
  • Ability to run a thoughtful and intentional advisory group
