About the Role

We’re seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Manager of Lab Operations to lead and optimize the daily functions of our laboratory. This role is pivotal in ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and scientific integrity across all lab activities. You’ll manage a team of talented scientists and technicians, oversee workflow efficiency, and drive continuous improvement in lab processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Supervise and mentor lab staff, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation.
    • Manage hiring, training, performance reviews, and professional development.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Coordinate daily lab operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
    • Ensure timely execution of experiments, testing, and reporting.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance
    • Maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, ISO, FDA).
    • Oversee documentation, SOPs, and quality control protocols.
  • Budget & Resource Management
    • Manage lab budgets, procurement of supplies, and maintenance of equipment.
    • Evaluate and implement cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Collaborate with leadership to align lab operations with organizational goals.
    • Identify and implement process improvements and technology upgrades.
  • Safety & Risk Management
    • Enforce safety protocols and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials.
    • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in laboratory operations.
  • Strong administrative leadership and coaching capabilities with at least 2 years in a laboratory leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations and quality systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in lab management software and data systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in high-throughput or clinical lab environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced degree or certification (e.g., ASCP, PMP) is a plus.
