Do you love supporting students and helping them learn and succeed in life? Do you want your work to have a positive impact on the community? Then join our team! Communities In Schools Jacksonville is seeking 10 full-time literacy tutors for our 2026-2027 School Year Programs. Read on and apply.

Job Summary:


Under the supervision and guidance of school staff, you will serve as a reading tutor and role model in a Duval County Public School. You will be responsible for participating in community projects, receiving extensive ongoing training, and attending parenting workshops. You will ensure that students enrolled in the program increase their reading level by collaborating with classroom teachers, other school staff, parents/families, and students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a one-on-one literacy tutor for at least 20–30 K–5 students, using the UFLI curriculum and supporting instruction with i-Ready and FAST assessment data.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to review student progress and document support using student interaction sheets.
  • Work closely with other team members within the assigned school and across Duval County Public Schools.
  • Participate in school-based projects and initiatives coordinated by the CIS Literacy Director, Coordinator, Site Project Manager, and Duval Reads members.
  • Maintain accurate service records, student interaction sheets, progress journals, and reporting data; submit reports to the Program Coordinator monthly and by set deadlines.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications and training:
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training (within 30 days of hire).
  • DCF 40-hour training (within 90 days of hire).
  • Participate in in-service training sessions and occasional weekend volunteer events.
  • Coordinate and lead literacy-focused events at school sites.
  • Design and implement daily enrichment activity lesson plans.
  • Supervise children during academic and enrichment time, ensuring activities are engaging and safe.
  • Provide homework assistance and academic support during designated times.
  • Collaborate with teachers to enhance enrichment and recreational activities through Project-Based Learning.
  • Assist with school-based projects, including preparing handouts, distributing snacks, cleaning designated areas, and making copies.
  • Commit to occasional weekend service and school events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children under 15
  • Experience in teaching is a plus
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community partners
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fingerprinting/background check is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and automobile insurance.
