Full-Time Instructional Assistant
Salisbury Township School District has a full-time vacancy in the position of Instructional Assistant. The successful candidate will support students, teachers and administrators in the learning environment by reinforcing knowledge, skills and strategies in both one-to-one and small and large group settings. Knowledge of the process of instruction and assessment is preferred. The Instructional Assistant must be able to effectively communicate with all stakeholders and build and maintain positive working relationships. The position is full-time, 6.5 hours/day, Monday-Friday, starting salary $21.07/hour. Qualifications: Preferred 2 years of college of PA credential certificate, CPR/First Aid certification; competency with written and spoken English language; ability to effectively communicate with young children and adults; ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision; ability and willingness to collaborate; basic understanding of the teaching, learning and assessment process; ability to plan and organize efficiently and effectively; and ability to work ethically and professionally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist with an individual student or groups of students as required by the IEP or the School District to reinforce educational skill development including but not limited to academic content areas and/or daily living skills.
  2. Provide a safe, secure, and positive educational environment through appropriate student supervision and intervention.
  3. Uses strategies and follows protocols for behavior management to meet the unique needs of each individual student as required by IEP and/or Employer.
  4. Supervise students before school, during recess and/or lunch, during dismissal and other times when assigned by the principal.
  5. Assist teachers preparing, adapting and modifying educational materials and supplies to enhance students' understanding and learning.
  6. Monitor students in all settings, including but not limited to: cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms, library, on and off the bus, etc.
  7. Assist students with studies following a student's absence.
  8. Assist the front office duties as assigned by the principal.
  9. Document data as directed by assigned teacher, principal, or Supervisor of Special Education.
  10. Attend and complete successfully all staff development, trainings, and/or meetings as required by the employer.
  11. Complete twenty (20) hours of staff development activities related to assignments completed annually between July 1st and June 30th each year in accordance with CHAPTER 14. Not mandatory for Instructional Assistants working in the office for that school year.
  12. Complete/renew CPR and First Aid certifications and remain certified.
  13. Attend to students' daily living needs including personal hygiene, bodily fluids, diapering, toileting, and grooming.
  14. Demonstrate initiative for carrying out all assigned duties.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator/assigned teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma.
  2. Meet one of the requirements for Highly Qualified Status as outlined below:

a. Have completed at least two (2) years of postsecondary study;
b. Possess an associate's degree or higher;
c. Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through the Salisbury Township School
District assessment; or
d. "ParaEducator Credential of Competency" as issued by PDE
  1. Current certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). These certifications must be maintained during employment.
  2. Additional job requirements may apply for those assigned to federally funded programs including Title I and Special Education.
