Position Summary:
The Mandel JCC of Boynton Beach is looking for a passionate, highly motivated Assistant Director of Family & Youth Engagement and Camp Shalom to join our Family & Youth Engagement team. Working under the direction of and in close partnership with the Director of Family & Youth Engagement, the Assistant Director serves as a key departmental leader and second-in-command, functioning in many ways as a chief of staff for the department. This position plays an integral role in departmental operations, program development, staff leadership, and execution, while directly overseeing School’s Out Day programs, Afterschool Enrichment Classes, Family & Youth programming, and Birthday Parties. During the summer, the Assistant Director serves as the Assistant Camp Director of Camp Shalom, playing a significant leadership role in all aspects of camp operations, programming, staff supervision, and the overall camper and family experience. This position offers significant opportunities for professional growth, expanded leadership responsibility, and advancement within the Mandel JCC.

Key Responsibilities
Camp Shalom:
- Serve as Assistant Director of Camp Shalom, acting as the Director’s second-in-command and functioning as a chief of staff across camp operations and programming.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of Camp Shalom, including programming, staffing, camper care, family communication, logistics, and day-to-day operations.
- Work closely with the Director to support camp planning, decision-making, staff leadership, problem-solving, and execution, stepping in to lead camp operations when needed.
- Oversee camp programming, daily operations, and day-to-day staff support, ensuring programs are organized, engaging, and executed at a high level.
- Take on significant ownership of operational leadership and problem solving.
Program Ownership:
- School’s Out Days: Lead the planning, development, and execution of all Kindergarten–5th grade School’s Out Day programs.
- Oversee all aspects of the program, including marketing, registration, enrollment and billing, family communication, staff hiring and supervision, program development, and day-of operations and execution.
- After-School Enrichment Classes: Lead the development and management of Kindergarten – 5th grade after-school enrichment programming.
- Develop a diverse calendar of fee-based enrichment opportunities, including cooking, art, STEM, martial arts, sports, and other engaging programs based on community interests and needs.
- Oversee all aspects of enrichment programming, including staff and vendor recruitment and management, marketing, registration, enrollment and billing, family communication, scheduling, on-site logistics, and troubleshooting.
- Kids Night Out Programming: Lead the planning and execution of Kindergarten – 5th grade Kids Night Out programming, including programming, staffing, marketing, registration, family communication, and day-of oversight.
- Birthday Parties: Oversee the growth, coordination, and execution of the JCC’s Birthday Party program.
- Manage all aspects of the birthday party experience, including family inquiries and communication, scheduling, staffing, program coordination, on-site logistics, and day-of execution.
Program Support:
- Work closely with the Family & Youth Engagement Coordinator to support the needs of Club J, The Mandel JCC’s daily Kindergarten – 5th grade afterschool program.
- In partnership with the Director, develop, plan, and implement engaging family programs that strengthen community connection and engagement.
- Provide support across Family & Youth Engagement programs and initiatives as needed, helping ensure strong communication, collaboration, and execution across the department.
- Provide support to Boynton Beach campus operations and other JCC departments as needed, collaborating across teams to support organizational programs, events, and initiatives.
Additional:
- Maintain high standards of professional service in interactions with all families, participants, staff, and any other stakeholders.
- Uphold and enforce all JCC policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Responsibilities may change according to the needs of the department and agency at the discretion of the supervisor.

Qualifications & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with Kindergarten – 5th grade children in a camp, afterschool, recreation, or youth development setting.
- Prior leadership experience in a summer camp, youth program, afterschool program, or similar organization, with experience supervising and supporting staff.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to build relationships, motivate staff, provide direction, and hold others accountable.
- Demonstrated operational leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs, navigate challenges, make sound decisions, and ensure strong day-to-day execution.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with the initiative to independently drive programs, projects, and responsibilities from planning through execution.
- Highly organized and able to successfully manage multiple programs, priorities, deadlines, and operational responsibilities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage children, families, staff, vendors, and community partners.
- Collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to work closely with the Director while also independently leading programs and departmental initiatives.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to shift priorities and step in wherever needed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality programs and experiences.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with registration, scheduling, or program management software preferred.
- Experience working in an inclusive childcare setting or supporting children with varying needs is a plus.
