Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and organized Survey Lead to serve as the critical link between the project management team and field survey party chiefs. This is a coordination-focused role for a technically strong professional who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and can bridge office calculations with field execution on large-scale infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise with Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Business Center software, combined with a strong foundation in survey modeling, GPS operations, and precise survey calculations.

Priority Technical Stack — Trimble Ecosystem

  • Trimble Business Center (TBC) — primary office software for data processing, modeling, and report generation
  • Trimble Survey Gear — total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, data collectors (e.g., TSC7, Trimble Access)
  • Experience importing, processing, and quality-checking field data within TBC
  • Ability to create and manage surface models, alignments, and corridor designs in TBC

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Survey Manager/Project Lead and field survey party chiefs, ensuring clear and timely communication of priorities, changes, and deliverables
  • Review, verify, and distribute survey control, stakeout data, and work control lines and elevations to field crews
  • Perform and QC survey calculations, coordinate geometry (COGO), and surface modeling using Trimble Business Center
  • Manage and oversee GPS/GNSS control networks, base station setup, and RTK operations across project sites
  • Ensure crews perform layout work accurately for concrete pours, anchor bolts, piping hangers, supports, and other critical installations
  • Check as-built conditions using appropriate surveying techniques and ensure documentation is completed and filed correctly
  • Provide topographic and cross-section surveys for planning and payment quantity calculations
  • Assist with conducting quantity calculations as required by the project team
  • Coordinate survey activities with engineers and superintendents to meet construction schedule requirements
  • Monitor and maintain the condition and calibration of all Trimble survey equipment
  • Manage survey department resources and assigned departmental budget
  • Support onboarding and mentorship of junior survey staff and party chiefs

What We Are Looking For

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED minimum; Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Engineering, Geomatics, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in construction or land survey, including field and office roles
  • Proficiency in Trimble Business Center for data processing, surface modeling, and survey calculation
  • Demonstrated experience operating and troubleshooting Trimble survey equipment (total stations, GNSS/GPS, Data Collectors)
  • Strong understanding of GPS/GNSS principles, control networks, and RTK workflows
  • Solid survey calculation skills including COGO, traverse closure, and coordinate transformations
  • Experience producing and reviewing surface and 3D models for construction layout
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred / A Plus:

  • Experience on large-scale infrastructure, heavy civil, or mega-project construction (billion-dollar+ projects)
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license — not required, but valued
  • Familiarity with machine control and GPS-guided equipment workflows
  • Experience managing multiple field crews across concurrent project sites
  • Background in cross-section quantity calculations and topographic survey for payment applications

Note on Licensure:

  • A Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is not a requirement for this position. We value demonstrated field and technical experience, particularly within the Trimble ecosystem, over licensure. Candidates with strong TBC proficiency, GPS/GNSS expertise, and large-project backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Why Work With Us

  • Comprehensive compensation and paid time off program
  • Industry-leading 401(k)/RRSP
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and/or Extended Health Care coverage
  • Wellness benefits and Employee Assistance Program
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program
  • Opportunity to work on landmark, large-scale infrastructure projects

Location: Honolulu, HI

Department: Survey

Reports to: Survey Manager / Project Lead

Employment Type: Full-Time

PLS Required: No

Salary Range: $90,000 / year

We are an EEO / ADA / Veterans Employer
