Job SummaryPerforms routine manual cleaning of the assigned areas by the Custodial Area Supervisors, Custodial Supervisor or the Senior Custodial Supervisor. Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care, cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that is assigned, completing all task assigned. This position is considered essential personnel and will require storm duty and emergency call-outs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Helps the area supervisors, supervisor and lead person when responding to emergency situations during and after hours. Emergency situations may include; property damage, personal injury, water leaks, flooding, overflowing restroom fixtures, broken window or door glass, and accidents resulting in the appearance of bodily fluids (blood, vomit waste, and urine).
  2. Must be able to show knowledge on the following types of equipment: auto scrubbers, buffers, dry vacuum and wet vacuum.
  3. Sweep, mop, and scrub floors; dust and clean surfaces; washes windows, walls, blinds, trash cans, air conditioning grills, and glass doors. Cleans rooms, replenishes supplies, and cleans drinking fountain in assigned buildings. Cleans and polishes as needed, empties trash inside and outside, and sweeps entrances, outside steps, and sidewalk. Cleans windows, door areas, and stairwells. Clean other area as assigned.
  4. Cleans large public areas such as lobbies, study rooms and chapter rooms. Cleans areas used for special events in the residence halls.
  5. Following the directions of the area supervisors, supervisor and lead person.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsHighSchool diploma or general education degree (GED) or 6 months of relatedexperience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education andexperience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Skill in managing ones' own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license prior to employment.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
