Division of Pediatric Pathology
The Division of Pediatric Pathology at Children's Wisconsin (CW), within the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), is seeking a full-time hematopathologist at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as Director of the CW Hematology, Flow Cytometry, and Coagulation Laboratory.This position includes a full-time faculty appointment in the Department of Pathology at MCW at a rank and salary commensurate with experience, and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally recognized pediatric care, cutting-edge research, and innovative education in a collaborative academic medical center.
MCW offers our faculty an enriching environment with myriad administrative, clinical, educational, and research opportunities spanning the whole spectrum of academic pediatric hematopathology. This position includes service work in both pediatric and adult hematopathology, shared call responsibilities, protected academic time, and administrative duties in the CW Clinical Laboratory.
Provide expert diagnostic services in pediatric and adult hematopathology, including evaluation of bone marrow, lymph nodes, peripheral blood, and flow cytometry
Collaborate closely with pediatric and adult hematologists/oncologists, bone marrow transplant physicians, and laboratory scientists in multidisciplinary care
Participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows within MCW's robust educational programs
Engage in clinical, translational, or basic science research with institutional support and protected time
Contribute to quality improvement, laboratory innovation, and development of diagnostic protocols
Performs other duties as assigned by Chair or Chair-Designate
The successful candidate will have a dual reporting relationship to the directors of both pediatric pathology and hematopathology, and be based in the Division of Pediatric Pathology.
Full-time
The Division of Pediatric Pathology offers services in anatomic pathology, hematopathology, flow cytometry, molecular testing, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. It offers subspecialty expertise in hematopathology, cytopathology, pediatric solid tumor pathology, vascular malformations, and perinatal/placental pathology. Divisional faculty are strongly involved in the activities and leadership of the Children's Oncology Group and Society for Pediatric Pathology. The division has an ACGME-accredited pediatric pathology fellowship program, and AP/CP residents routinely rotate on service. It annually handles over 6,500 surgical pathology & cytopathology specimens, 250 bone marrow specimens, 1,200 placentas, and 40 autopsies. The CW Laboratory performs over 1,050,000 tests at its main lab and three additional satellite laboratories.
The adult hematopathology service based at Froedtert Hospital and Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories handles approximately 2,100 bone marrow specimens, 4,200 flow cytometry studies, and 500 in-house tissue specimens, as well as a substantial additional volume of second opinion cases from outside facilities.The hematopathology services are supported by flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular laboratories. The department's training programs encompass 16 AP/CP residency slots, two one-year hematopathology fellowship positions, and additional fellowship programs in various subspecialty areas.
Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent)from an accredited institution.
Board certification or eligibility in Hematopathology.
Unrestricted State medical licensure, or eligibility to obtain license, in the state of Wisconsin.
Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful finalist.

Children's Wisconsin is an independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. Children's and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin - the Children's Specialty Group (CSG) - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children's Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 72-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. In 2021-2022, CW and CSG had six specialties ranked byUS News & World Report: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and pulmonology. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions.
