Position Overview

This is a high-responsibility engineering opportunity for a senior-level technical leader who operates with independence, precision, and design authority across building systems. As a Senior Engineering Designer / Project Engineer track professional, you will be entrusted with engineering calculations, system design, and multidisciplinary coordination with minimal supervisionโ€”functioning as a key driver in delivering code-compliant, high-performance building systems.

This role goes beyond productionโ€”it requires a professional who can think critically, make independent engineering decisions, and guide both design direction and junior staff development. You will be actively involved in shaping system solutions from concept through construction while working closely with project leadership, clients, and internal teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations and independently design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, or structural systems based on project requirements
  • Develop system layouts and design solutions in accordance with codes, standards, and firm procedures
  • Lead discipline-specific engineering tasks with minimal supervision and exercise independent technical judgment
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Project Engineers on scope, budget, schedule, and phasing requirements
  • Estimate discipline-specific man-hours and contribute to project planning and resource allocation
  • Assign and supervise work for junior designers and technicians to ensure timely and accurate delivery
  • Produce complete construction documents aligned with client expectations and engineering standards
  • Review drawings across all disciplines for coordination, constructability, and compliance
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and technical integrity
  • Participate in client coordination meetings and represent engineering solutions professionally
  • Mentor and train Engineering Designers at junior and mid levels
  • Support continuous improvement of design standards, workflows, and technical practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Structural, or Architectural Engineering
  • Minimum 6-10 years of engineering design experience in building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, or structural)
  • OR Associate degree with 10+ years of relevant design experience under PE supervision
  • OR 11+ years of progressive practical engineering design experience (discipline-specific)
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and engineering standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Revit proficiency preferred
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to manage deadlines in fast-paced project environments
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT certification (preferred)
  • Experience progressing toward or supporting PE-level responsibilities
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience with junior engineers/designers
  • Experience in multidisciplinary building systems coordination
  • Strong familiarity with construction documentation and QA/QC processes
  • Experience working in commercial, healthcare, or institutional projects
