What is a fire sprinkler contractor?

A Fire Sprinkler Contractor is a professional responsible for designing, installing, inspecting, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems to ensure buildings meet fire safety codes. They work with residential, commercial, and industrial properties to prevent fire damage and protect lives. Their duties include understanding local fire regulations, selecting appropriate sprinkler systems, and ensuring proper water supply connections. Fire Sprinkler Contractors are licensed and trained to follow industry safety standards, providing reliable fire protection solutions.

What does a fire sprinkler contractor do?

A typical day for a Fire Sprinkler Contractor involves reviewing project plans, conducting site visits, overseeing installation crews, and ensuring that all work complies with fire safety codes and project specifications. Contractors often coordinate with architects, general contractors, and inspectors to address any design or compliance issues that arise during the installation process. Additionally, they may be responsible for ordering materials, scheduling inspections, and resolving on-site challenges to keep projects on track. This dynamic role requires both technical expertise and strong organizational skills, making every day varied and engaging.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fire sprinkler contractor?

To excel as a Fire Sprinkler Contractor, you need expertise in fire protection systems, construction practices, blueprint reading, and relevant licensing or certifications such as NICET or state contractor licenses. Experience with specialized design software, hydraulic calculation tools, and a thorough understanding of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes is often necessary. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving abilities help contractors effectively coordinate with clients, engineers, and on-site crews. Mastery of these skills ensures the safe, code-compliant, and timely completion of fire protection system installations and maintenance.

Job description

Mallard Fire Protection LLC is a small, family-owned fire sprinkler contractor based in North Central Florida. We are looking for an experienced Fire Sprinkler Foreman to join our team.

Our work includes new construction, renovations, modifications, inspections, repairs, and service work. This is a hands-on position for someone with solid fire sprinkler experience who can take responsibility for getting the job done correctly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Install, modify, repair, and service fire sprinkler systems.
  • Read and understand fire sprinkler plans and construction drawings.
  • Perform work on new construction, renovation, and service projects.
  • Maintain good workmanship and follow applicable codes, plans, and company standards.
  • Communicate with management, general contractors, customers, and other trades as needed.
  • Identify problems or changing conditions in the field and communicate them to management.
  • Help with system testing, inspections, and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Keep tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Help train and work with less-experienced employees when needed.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who has good fire sprinkler experience and takes pride in their work.

The right person should be:

  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Experienced with fire sprinkler installation and service work.
  • Experienced and comfortable working with CPVC systems and installations.
  • Comfortable reading sprinkler drawings and understanding field layout.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to communicate well and ask questions when something is unclear.
  • Willing to take ownership of problems and find solutions.
  • Safety-conscious.
  • Organized and willing to keep things moving.
  • Adaptable and able to handle changing priorities.

Because we are a small workforce, the work can vary greatly from day to day. Plans can change, jobs can get delayed, or an unexpected service call may come up. We need someone who is flexible and willing to adjust as needed.

About Mallard Fire Protection

We are a small family-owned company where ownership is directly involved in the day-to-day business and field work. We keep our management structure small, which means you'll work directly with the owners and have a real opportunity to have an impact on the work we do.

We're looking for someone who wants to be part of a small team, takes pride in doing quality work, and is looking for a long-term position with a growing company.

Requirements
  • Previous fire sprinkler experience required.
  • Foreman or experienced technician experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clean driving record is a must.
  • Able to safely operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Able to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated work areas.
  • Able to perform physically demanding construction work.
  • Reliable attendance and transportation.
