Description of Work
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (OLLI) is a membership-based lifelong learning program for adults ages 50 and older. OLLI offers noncredit courses, lectures, events and travel opportunities. No tests, no grades, just a love of learning.
As the OLLI Events Coordinator, you will:
  • Be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of event offerings from small luncheons and receptions to programs with 25-300+ attendees.
  • Serve as the primary contact for event requirements.
  • Oversee planning, content, logistics, and budgets for annual and special events.
  • Work with committees of volunteers, managing schedules and supervising volunteers.
  • Handle correspondence, assist with securing presenters, entertainers, and seeking member input.

The position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work; OR
  • Associate degree plus four (4) years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalency plus six (6) years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office, presentation software, and database management.
  • Proficiency in hosting and managing virtual events on Zoom or similar platform, including scheduling, participant management, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to be flexible in performing work assignments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Experience working in a non-profit, academic, or lifelong learning community environment.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
