Job description

Quartet Veterinary Specialty Hospital is seeking a full-time board-certified (or residency-trained) small animal surgeon to join our well-established specialty surgical practice in Cary, North Carolina -one of the fastest-growing and most desirable regions in the country.
This is an opportunity to practice high-quality, advanced surgery with the freedom to do medicine the way you believe it should be done. You'll be supported by an experienced team, excellent infrastructure, and a consistent referral base built over more than 25 years. We offer the potential for a very comfortable income, a strong work-life balance, and a collegial environment where surgeons are truly valued.
Meet Our Surgical Team
You'll be joining one of the most experienced surgical teams in the Research Triangle area, with decades of combined experience and a stellar reputation for exceptional patient care. Our anesthesia service is led by an anesthesia residency-trained doctor, supported by a highly skilled and dedicated RVT team.
Our caseload includes a balanced mix of orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgical cases, supported by advanced technology and diagnostics, including:
  • In-house digital radiography
  • CT
  • Arthroscopy and laparoscopy
  • C-arm
  • Ethicon Enseal and Ligasure
  • Ultrasonography available in-house
  • MRI capability available through a contracted partner
  • Our long-standing referral relationships provide a robust, steady surgical caseload, allowing you to focus on practicing excellent medicine without the pressure of building volume.

Our Culture
At Quartet, collaboration and respect define how we work together. Our team is close-knit, supportive, and genuinely enjoys what we do. We value mentorship, open communication, and strong relationships-with each other, with our referring veterinarians, and with our clients.
Team culture extends beyond the clinic, with regular opportunities to connect through potlucks, celebrations, lunches, and shared enthusiasm for college and professional sports. We believe great medicine happens when people feel supported and balanced.
Work-Life Balance (Yes, Really)
We are proud to offer a schedule that supports life outside of work:
  • Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Closed weekends and holidays
  • 3- or 4-day work week for surgeons
  • This structure allows our surgeons to maintain a fulfilling career without burnout.

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a highly competitive compensation package, including:
  • Guaranteed base salary plus production pay (no negative accrual)
  • Signing bonus and relocation assistance
  • Health, life, and disability insurance
  • Supplemental critical illness and accident plans
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Fitness benefit
  • Generous paid time off
  • Paid professional memberships and licensure (ACVS, VOS, AVMA, NCVMA)
  • AVMA PLIT coverage
  • Compensated continuing education
  • Uniforms
  • Employee pet discount
  • Employee Assistance Program

Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is board-certified or residency-trained in surgery, with excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest level of patient care. We are looking for a team-oriented surgeon who values collaboration, wants to build strong relationships, and takes pride in being part of a respected referral hospital.
Living in Cary, North Carolina
Cary is consistently ranked among the best places to live and work in the country. Centrally located between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, the area offers outstanding public schools, a thriving food and arts scene, major collegiate sports rivalries (Duke, UNC, NC State), professional hockey with the Carolina Hurricanes, and easy access to both the beach and the mountains.
With mild winters, beautiful autumns, and abundant parks and greenways, the Triangle offers something for everyone.
Be Part of EVG Specialty Network
