Job description

Our organization is in search of a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible Neurologist who has completed a two-year surgical epilepsy fellowship. This role will serve as the Medical Director of the Intracranial Epilepsy Monitoring Program within our Neurology Department. The Medical Director will oversee patient care and contribute to the advancement of our intracranial monitoring initiatives. This position is located at our Scarborough Campus, which features an on-site MRI and neurodiagnostic lab, along with the nearby Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at a major medical center in Portland, Maine. Research opportunities are available through our research institute, and dedicated time for academic pursuits can be arranged through a specific academic pathway.

Our Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is recognized as a level III Epilepsy Center, serving over 4,000 patients annually. The program is staffed by five epileptologists (three specializing in adult care and two in pediatrics), along with two dedicated nurse practitioners, five nursing staff members, and a nurse navigator. We collaborate closely with a fellowship-trained epilepsy/functional neurosurgeon, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, and a dedicated neuropsychologist and psychometrician as we work towards establishing a level IV comprehensive epilepsy program. Our facilities include five EMU beds (three for adults and two for children), as well as fully accredited inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic labs and a 3T MRI.

Key Opportunities:

  • Become part of a well-established Neurology Department with over 35 sub-specialty trained Adult and Pediatric neurologists, Neurohospitalists, and Advanced Practice Professionals, all supported by a strong clinical and administrative team, including an on-site pharmacist, behavioral health counselor, social worker, neuropsychologist, and psychometrician.
  • Hospital admissions, stroke care, and telestroke services are managed by a dedicated team of Neurohospitalists, ensuring comprehensive after-hours phone coverage.
  • Inpatient responsibilities are limited to a fair share of daytime coverage on the neurology consult service, averaging four to five weeks per year.
  • Engage in teaching opportunities with MaineHealth Neurology residents (four residents per year), as well as residents and fellows from other departments and rotating medical students from Tufts University.
  • Academic appointments are available through our affiliation with Tufts Medical School, providing pathways for academic advancement.

Our organization is a not-for-profit integrated health system dedicated to the vision of "Working together so our communities are the healthiest in America." We comprise nine local health systems, a comprehensive behavioral health network, diagnostic services, home health agencies, and a workforce of 1,700 employed clinicians collaborating through our medical group. With around 22,000 care team members, we deliver preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment to 1.1 million residents across Maine and New Hampshire. We offer a Total Rewards package that includes extensive and competitive benefits, along with programs and resources tailored to meet the diverse needs of our workforce.

Portland features a walkable urban environment in a historic downtown, celebrated for its culinary scene (named Bon Appétit Magazine 2018 Restaurant City of the Year) and a top 10 craft beer culture (Travel Channel 2021). The city is rich in live music, home to a major art museum, and boasts a picturesque working waterfront. The region offers year-round recreational activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, and miles of stunning beaches. Located just two hours north of Boston, this community is vibrant and diverse.

We are committed to investing in our providers and fostering an inclusive environment where you can thrive and achieve your full potential. If you are interested in building a career in a supportive setting that prioritizes exceptional patient care, we encourage you to submit your letter of interest and CV to apply today.
