Responsibilities
The Environmental Project Manager I manages environmental consulting projects of low to moderate complexity through all phases of execution, including planning, staffing, technical delivery, client communication, and financial management. This role is responsible for coordinating project resources, developing staff, supporting business development efforts, and ensuring projects meet quality, schedule, budget, and safety expectations. The Environmental Project Manager I demonstrates growing leadership, technical competency, and client management skills while demonstrating ECS Core Values.
Responsibilities
  • Manages environmental projects from initiation through completion
  • Coordinates project scope, schedule, budget, and resource requirements
  • Mentors junior staff and supports team development
  • Attends project meetings and provides solutions to technical and administrative issues
  • Maintains regular communication with clients and develops client relationships
  • Builds and maintains a client database through project and business development activities
  • Manages project budgets and monitors project financial performance
  • Prepares change orders, invoices, and supports collection activities
  • Schedules, trains, and oversees technical staff assigned to projects
  • Prioritizes project activities to meet deliverable and budget requirements
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously
  • Prepares proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and change orders
  • Prepares environmental reports, technical analyses, and project recommendations
  • Reviews deliverables prepared by junior staff prior to senior review
  • Leads project discussions with clients and stakeholders
  • Coordinates field and office resources to support project execution
  • Performs additional project management and technical duties as assigned
  • Directs project setup and field implementation activities
  • Assigns qualified staff to project activities
  • Oversees groundwater, soil, and media investigations

  • Develops site work plans, sampling plans, and field logistics

  • Manages underground storage tank assessments
  • Supports remediation system installation, operation, and maintenance
  • Communicates project impacts related to scope, budget, schedule, and site conditions to project leadership and clients

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Natural or Environmental Science, Geology, or other degree relevant to the practice of Environmental Consulting
  • A professional Engineer (P.E.) or Professional Geologist (P.G.) is preferred
    • Additional licensure or certifications may be required depending on the type of work performed
  • Good knowledge of environmental principles and applications
  • Good knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and test methods
  • Strong project management and consulting skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Strong decision-making and organizational capabilities
  • Proficiency in environmental sampling methods and project execution
  • Ability to mentor and develop technical staff
  • Ability to lift and carry field equipment (~40 lbs)
  • Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and Company policies
  • If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
