We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer 4 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC offices.
In this role, you will provide industry-leading technical expertise and leadership on challenging projects within the Energy and Industrial/Manufacturing sectors. Core responsibilities include leading major consulting assignments in complex remedial design as well as water/wastewater process and treatment engineering projects. You will mentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring technical excellence and fostering professional growth within your teams. Collaborating closely with clients, you'll deliver innovative and practical solutions while helping strengthen long-term relationships. A current North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. The role requires at least three days per week of in-office presence.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:

  • Lead major consulting assignments associated with your area of expertise, provide expert-level technical and strategic consulting, and ensure that assignments align with client needs.
  • Lead large technical evaluations and design efforts, including conceptual site model development, field implementation of bench-scale and field pilot studies, remedial action plans, remedial system installation and O&M, permitting, design and contract package development, construction procurement support for environmental projects.
  • Lead the development of team technical competence, knowledge of codes and regulations, and professional standards of practice to assigned tasks.
  • Be sought after to provide leadership for staff at varying levels with expert mentoring and coaching to support alignment of staff with market and client needs and support the growth and innovation of our practice areas.
  • Act as senior technical advisor and Engineer of Record on remedial design and construction projects.
  • Lead key communications and negotiations with state and federal environmental agencies.
  • Lead all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors.
  • Serve as a technical expert in water/wastewater process engineering and remedial design projects for Energy and Industrial/Manufacturing clients.
  • Be present in the office setting at least three days per week, collaborating and mentoring in person while contributing to office leadership.
  • Maintain an active North Carolina PE license.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 20+ years of related experience.
  • Professional registration or certification, as applicable (PE in North Carolina required).
  • Able to integrate industry-leading advancements into work as appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including verbally communicating and presenting project information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Applies emotional intelligence to achieve higher impact on project team and client communications.
  • Demonstrated competency with various environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated competency and understanding of soil, groundwater and air treatment technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in water/wastewater treatment engineering and remedial design.
  • Experience serving Energy and Industrial/Manufacturing sector clients.
  • Committed to mentoring and developing junior staff.

Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.

The salary range for this position in Charlotte, NC and Raleigh, NC is $175,000 - $215,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
