Job description

Advanced Entertainment Technology (AET) seeks a Senior Manager of Design and Engineering.

AET is one of the leading designers and fabricators of Theme Park Show Action Equipment and Special Effects in the United States. In addition to our theme park projects, our Tru-Roll Division provides Theatrical Rigging Systems, Track and Drapery solutions for the live entertainment industry, schools and museums. AET designs and fabricates HazMat training props for first responder training facilities and provides custom Architectural Machinery and automation solutions for luxury residences and commercial buildings.

The Senior Manager of Design and Engineering is responsible for leading the Design and Engineering Department and overseeing all design and engineering support for all AET projects with the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Management: Oversee the Design and Engineering team in the completion of all design and engineering projects. Hiring and training qualified design and engineering staff. Assign duties for specific projects and monitor progress.
  • Engineering: Preform basic level engineering calculations for all levels of the design and engineering process. Coordinate and interface with outside Engineers (PE) or Engineering Firms.
  • Creative Collaboration: Participate with the Project Management team in collaborating with customer creative teams, and internal teams, to conceptualize, develop Show Action Equipment (SAE) and Special Effects (SFX) to achieve the client’s creative intent.
  • Design Optimization: Review design specifications to determine the best manufacturing methods and materials.
  • Budgeting: Assist Estimating Dept. in developing proposal budgets that include design and engineering.
  • CAD Design: Create 2D drawings and 3D models of components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Documentation: Generate Design and Engineering required Deliverables which may include engineering calculations, facility requirements, detailed technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Problem-Solving: Participate in conceptual design, identify design flaws, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Standardization: Apply industry standards (e.g. ANSI, AWS) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to designs.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all designs and engineering comply with clients’ standards and Amusement Park Standards (e.g. ASTM F-24, NFPA 160, etc.)

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical technology or engineering, or an equivalent technical degree/certification.
  • Technical Skills: High proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk [AutoCAD], CATIA, BIM).
  • Experience: Minimum 4-6 years of experience in design role, including experience in Amusement Park Show Action Equipment, Special Effects, and Fire Effects.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and drafting standards.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and team collaboration skills.
