The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy's Grid Integration business is looking for a Mechanical Plant Design Engineer to support HVDC converter station projects through mechanical plant design, layout development, and technical coordination across project phases. In this role, you will work with 3D modelling, 2D drawings, mechanical interfaces, design documentation, and engineering estimates that help shape safe, reliable, and efficient converter station solutions. Your work will connect mechanical, civil, electrical, project, tender, supplier, contractor, and customer inputs into practical designs that meet project requirements for safety, quality, cost, and delivery. You will also help identify risks early, build HSE considerations into the design process, and support installation and commissioning activities when required. This is an opportunity to contribute to large-scale HVDC infrastructure projects that support grid reliability, energy transmission, and the continued modernization of the power system.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Perform mechanical plant design for HVDC converter stations, including 3D modelling and 2D drawings/layouts.
  • Apply established design practices, guidelines, and applicable standards for mechanical plant and electromechanical design, including onshore and offshore applications.
  • Build HSE considerations and early risk identification into design solutions.
  • Prepare and maintain drawings, layouts, bills of materials, engineering estimates, and related design documentation.
  • Help ensure designs meet project requirements, timelines, budget, quality, and safety standards.
  • Review and verify drawings and technical documentation for accuracy and alignment with project needs.
  • Collaborate with civil, electrical, project, tender, customer, supplier, and contractor stakeholders across engineering and execution phases.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases when required.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting within mechanical or plant engineering.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electromechanical plant design within HVDC or similar infrastructure projects is an advantage.
  • Experience level may be adjusted by role level, from junior/associate to senior engineer.
  • Experience using CAD/PLM tools for mechanical plant design; NX and Teamcenter experience is an advantage.
  • Ability to work according to defined engineering processes and digital toolchains.

More About Us

  • Opportunities to work on innovative technologies that shape the future of energy.
  • A collaborative environment with experienced professionals across the power industry.
  • Access to learning platforms and career development programs.
  • Competitive health and retirement benefits.
  • Paid leave and flexible work arrangements.
