Scripps Staff Scientist - Disney Lab

Scripps Staff Scientist 

Classification Minimum Requirements:
  • Ph.D. and/or MD in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience. 
  • This position is open to current UF employees only.
Job Description:

Under the PI's supervision, responsible for chemical synthesis and design of molecules intended to be studied for biological use. Requires an ability to review the literature to optimize protocols and to use lab instrumentation to validate experimental results. Must work well within project teams to understand and address research problems as they arise.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct experiments to characterize RNA-small molecule interactions using various methods.
  • Conduct computational experiments to study RNA-small molecule recognition.
  • Conduct computational experiments to define the physicochemical properties and scaffolds of small molecules that bind RNA; use these results to create RNA-focused small molecule libraries
  • Compiling and analyzing data and presenting research findings at lab or progress  meetings, or other venues. This includes maintaining and repairing instrumentation and maintaining a comprehensive laboratory notebook
  • Assisting the PI in writing abstracts and/or grant proposals and in guiding students or lab technicians with procedures/techniques related to their research in the laboratory, as designated by the PI.
Expected Salary:

$70,000

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. and/or MD in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience.
  • This position is open to current UF employees only.
Preferred:

Proficiency in lab instrumentation use and maintenance, in Chemdraw, PowerPoint, Excel, and (on occasion) Schrodinger molecular modeling software.
