Retina Labs USA (www.Retina-Labs.com) is a leading provider of teleretinal screening solutions for early detection of eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy. Roughly 40%-45% of Americans diagnosed with diabetes have some stage of diabetic eye disease. However, only about half are aware of it. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of severe visual impairment in the working-age population.

We're looking for highly motivated and clinically oriented Retinal Imaging Field Technologists to join our preventive care team. You will be responsible for performing home visits and participating in health fair events to conduct diabetic eye exams using an easy-to-operate portable retinal camera. You may also be required to administer additional preventive screening tests including bone density scans and distributing direct-to-consumer lab tests using sample collection kits provided to you.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out scheduled appointments.
  • Travel to patient homes and health fair events and arrive on time as scheduled.
  • Explain the test procedure(s) to patients and hand out educational information as provided by the company.
  • Transport medical imaging equipment/accessories and prepare for exam procedure as per company protocol.
  • Conduct retinal exams by taking images for the patient's left and right eyes and validate image quality as per company's clinical standards.
  • Transmit retinal images to company's teleretinal screening platform.
  • If required, and whenever possible, collect an A1c and blood glucose samples (finger prick), micro albumin (urine sample) and leave behind colorectal screening kit for patient to self-complete at their leisure.
  • Perform bone density scan if required.
  • Ensure accurate labeling of lab sample kits and return to lab testing center as per company procedure.
  • Use the company's ComplyHub app to complete the electronic visit verification.
  • Submit monthly expense report.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Access to reliable transportation that would enable you to travel to multiple patient homes during the day.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel beyond your immediate area with possible overnight stays an asset.
  • Prior healthcare/care giver experience, an understanding of diabetes is a definite asset.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings an asset.
  • Knowledge of eye care, ophthalmic imaging or possessing a Certified Ophthalmic Technologist certificate is a definite asset.
  • Desire to gain healthcare industry knowledge and training.
  • Ability to use maintain digital medical records in the company's software systems.
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in Spanish a definite asset.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Be dependable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to interact with patients in a courteous, compassionate and professional manner at all times.
