Full Time Developer Advocate information

How does a Full Time Developer Advocate typically balance coding responsibilities with community engagement activities?

A Full Time Developer Advocate often splits their time between hands-on development tasks—such as creating sample code, contributing to open source projects, or building demos—and engaging with the developer community through talks, blog posts, and social media. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management and prioritization skills, as advocates must stay technically sharp while also being accessible and responsive to community needs. Many Developer Advocates work closely with product and engineering teams to relay feedback from the community, ensuring that their contributions have a tangible impact on product direction.

What is a Full Time Developer Advocate?

A Full Time Developer Advocate is a professional who acts as a bridge between a company and the developer community. Their main role is to help developers understand and use the company's products effectively by providing technical support, creating educational resources, and gathering feedback for product improvement. Developer Advocates often speak at conferences, write blog posts, and engage with developers on forums and social media. They work closely with both engineering and marketing teams to ensure that developers' needs are addressed. The position requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for building community.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Developer Advocate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Developer Advocate, you need a solid background in software development, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of developer communities, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with documentation tools, code repositories (like GitHub), and experience with public speaking or content creation platforms is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences set top candidates apart. These skills are crucial for building strong relationships between developers and organizations, fostering engagement, and effectively promoting technical products or platforms.

Job description

Senior Integration Product Manager & Developer Advocate (Vista/Spectrum)

Are you a technical leader who bridges the gap between external developer ecosystems and core product strategy? Join Trimble's Partnerships and Marketplace team to co-author a high-impact, flagship financial integration with Procore while championing the global developer community for our industry-leading Vista and Spectrum solutions.

About Us: Trimble is a global technology company that connects the physical and digital worlds, transforming the ways work gets done. With relentless innovation in precise positioning, modeling and data analytics, Trimble enables essential industries including construction, geospatial and transportation. Whether it's helping customers build and maintain infrastructure, design and construct buildings, optimize global supply chains or map the world, Trimble is at the forefront, driving productivity and progress.

AECO: The Trimble AECO segment provides digital construction solutions that increase precision and productivity for Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations.

What Makes This Role Great:

In this dual-impact role, you will be the absolute cornerstone of Trimble's construction financial ecosystem, owning the high-stakes co-authorship of our flagship integration with Procore. You will wield unique influence by translating complex business logic into powerful API workflows while simultaneously acting as the strategic voice and advocate for our global developer network.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

  • Co-author a seamless, flagship integration between Procore Financials and Trimble Vista by designing detailed field-level mappings and visual workflows.

  • Serve as the dedicated Developer Advocate for Vista and Spectrum, empowering partners on "The Network" with roadmap updates, API changes, and technical consulting.

  • Channel critical external developer feedback and pain points directly back to internal product management teams to actively shape the future product roadmap.

  • Act as the premier technical subject matter expert during high-profile customer and sales consultations to articulate integration capabilities.

  • Develop high-quality technical content, including tutorials and code samples, to help independent software vendors scale their integrations.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Product Management, DevRel, Software Engineering, or Technical Program Management.

  • Strong technical proficiency with SQL databases, REST APIs, and the software development lifecycle.

  • Deep domain expertise in construction financial business processes and technical workflows.

  • Hands-on, practical experience working with Trimble Vista or Trimble Spectrum systems.

  • Superb communication skills with a proven ability to manage high-stakes external partnerships and author clear technical documentation.

Bonus Points For:

  • Prior experience building or managing integrations specifically between Procore and Trimble ERPs.

  • Existing relationships or active engagement within the construction technology developer community.

Logistics:

Location: Westminter, CO or Lake Oswego, OR (In-Office)

Travel Requirement: 10%
