Job description

Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center of Augusta (DSCCA) is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our dermatology team in Augusta, GA. In this role, you will partner closely with providers to support both clinical and procedural dermatology services, assisting with patient care throughout the day. Candidates with Medical Assistant experience in any specialty are encouraged to apply. Dermatology experience is preferred but not required.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This position offers hands-on experience with exposure to general dermatology, surgical procedures, and cosmetic treatments, making it a strong opportunity for candidates looking to expand their clinical skillset.

Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center of Augusta (DSCCA) provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services to patients throughout the Augusta area. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, with expertise in general dermatology, skin cancer detection and treatment, Mohs surgery, and aesthetic procedures.


Key Responsibilities
  • Room patients and obtain medical history, medications, and chief complaint
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms; maintain appropriate clinical supplies
  • Assist providers during patient visits, including documentation/scribing in EMR
  • Support in-office procedures such as biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and injections (e.g., lidocaine, corticosteroids)
  • Assist with patient flow throughout the clinic, ensuring efficient and timely visits
  • Prepare and label specimens for pathology/laboratory processing in accordance with protocols
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment
  • Provide patient education, including pre- and post-procedure instructions and wound care
  • Perform patient callbacks, medication refills, and chart preparation as needed
  • Support inventory management and stocking of clinical supplies
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation within the EMR system
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting preferred; dermatology experience preferred
  • Experience rooming patients, measuring vital signs, and preparing patients for appointments
  • Ability to triage patient concerns and communicate effectively with providers
  • Experience administering injections and assisting with clinical procedures
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 coding
  • Familiarity with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Bloodborne Pathogen standards
  • Proficient in EMR systems and basic computer applications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; fluent in English
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, patients, and providers
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to travel to satellite offices as needed

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, or in a clinical patient care role preferred
  • Prior dermatology experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing
  • Use of hands and fingers for clinical and administrative tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
