Who we're looking for

Toyota's Purchasing Supplier Development (PSD) Buying Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Purchasing Analyst with a strong data analytics mindset and the ability to turn insights into sound business decisions.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop sourcing strategies and apply rigorous analytical thinking (cost modeling, scenario/variance analysis, and benchmarking) to inform negotiations and recommendations-ensuring our Supplier Partners are compensated fairly while maintaining Toyota's competitive advantage across the North American supply chain.

The person in this role will support PSD's objective to develop our outsourced supply base by using data-driven performance insights to improve overall cost, quality, manufacturability, and operational self-reliance-and by enabling timely, well-supported decisions with internal stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop sourcing strategies using data-driven analysis to maximize supply base efficiency and support clear, timely decisions.

  • Participate in early design work to optimize part design/manufacturing through Value Engineering analysis, including trade-off, sensitivity, and scenario evaluations.

  • Establish, analyze, and monitor cost metrics/KPIs to drive a consistent, efficient approach to pricing, enable decision-ready recommendations, and support timely payment issuance.

  • Negotiate with Supplier Partners for cost savings/avoidance using fact-based analytics and tools such as competitive benchmarking, cost-element modeling, and variance analysis from a defined baseline.

  • Report accurately and on time to all project milestones, synthesizing information into clear insights/dashboards for leadership reviews on target creation & achievement and negotiation.

  • Lead Annual Price Review activities with Supplier Partners by analyzing cost drivers, quantifying improvement opportunities, and aligning stakeholders on data-backed actions focused on Manufacturing Improvement.

  • Understand and analyze commodity market trends (e.g., indices, capacity, and risk signals) to inform sourcing decisions and ensure Toyota is using the right supplier candidates and technologies.

  • Develop and manage Supplier Partner relationships and performance by tracking KPIs, interpreting trends, and driving fact-based continuous improvement decisions.

Positions are located in Saline, Michigan.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) or equivalent professional experience in a direct buying role, including ownership of analytics and negotiation for product costs of \$1M+.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in purchasing, procurement, or a similar role with responsibility for product/cost analysis, building recommendations, and supporting business decisions.

  • Experience with supply base strategy analysis, including scenario modeling (e.g., supplier selection, capacity/risk, and cost trade-offs).

  • Experience with data analysis, including the ability to evaluate trends, quantify impacts, and communicate concise decision-quality insights and recommendations to management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP).

  • Working experience with Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate (including data importation, slicer manipulation, report creation).

  • Working knowledge and experience with Python et al, AI, and other data analytics platforms.

  • Current working schedule is Hybrid. The requirement is an onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and working remotely Monday and Friday. This schedule supports the needs of the business and subject to future modifications.

  • Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in a direct buying role, including ownership of analytics and negotiation for product costs of \$1M+.

  • Professional experience in an automotive direct buying role, including responsibility for analysis and negotiation of product cost.
